Is there a specific part # I'm looking for when buying one for a 2008? It needs to be replaced, but I know I'll be overpaying by having the dealership do it.

HI Peter, After doing some hunting around, mainly becasue it's time for me to replace the cabin filter on Mina I found two OEM cabin filters for our car. The OEM numbers are: 87139-47010-83 which is for a regular filter and 87139-YZZ03 which is for a Charcoal filter. On line I found regular filter will run about $15.00 and the better one is about $25.00. There will be a shipping fee of course, but after calling my local Stealership Parts department I was able to buy the better filter for less money. I'd suggest you think of other things, like that blasted rear wiper blade you need as well and buy them at the same time to get the most bang for your shipping costs. I found that Toyota Parts Barn had the filters for about a dollar less than other places. Ryan

Have you taken it out washed it with hand soap, dried it and put it back in yet?
    Works for me.

I buy odd size home hepa filters from the $1 bin and cut it to the dimension I need. I toss the cardboard ends of the filter away. Each hepafilter makes several cabin filters which cost me less than $0.25 each. I keep the spares in a plastic bag.

Wal-Mart now sells a FRAM "fresh breeze" in-cabin air filter for the Prius. it's cheaper than the dealership.

Has anyone every gotten one of these for $3.90?

2001 Toyota Prius Cabin Air Filter. Buy New Only $3.90

It says that it "Replaces OEM# 87139-47010-83". If that's true, is there any reason why this $4 filter would be any less desirable than the Fram one, or the stock OEM filter, or something else?

As long as they fit, is one air filter really better than another?

Looks like a good find. I looked up 2009 and it showed the same:

2009 Toyota Prius Cabin Air Filter. Buy New Only $3.90
Give it a try and let us know what you experience. Did you find out the shipping cost? Good luck! :)

Any luck on trying these out? $3.90 (+shipping) seems like a good deal, but only if it is truly equivalent?
