When I went to my town hall to give the paperwork to get a rebate on my old cars excise tax and to make sure I do not get hit next year for it I had a chat with the Accessor and she explained how the excise tax works. So I put together a spreadsheet where you input:

MSRP (from Sticker but not total Sticker Price it is the starting number)

    Year of Manufacture i.e. 2010

    Date of Purchase

And it will tell you how much the excise tax will be until it hits the minimum which is 10% of MSRP

So for you Mass Buyers you can download it to see what the tax will be.

I got my first Excise Tax bill for this year. The valuation on the tax bill was much lower then my MSRP. It turns out the value on the bill is based on the year the car was bought. These percentages are:

    .5
    .9
    .6
    .4
    .25
    .1

So if you bought a 2011 this years value would be 1/2 of MSRP.
Next Years Value would be 90% of MSRP.

So to make my spreadsheet work with MSRP used by the tax department take the value and divide it by the percentage and use that value for MSRP.

    Update of SpreadSheet

I modified the sheet to allow you to input your expected MSRP (I used the Sticker) and then the Tax Bill one when you receive your first tax bill. This way you can get an estimate before you get your first bill and once you have the first bills value you will then get the real values.
