My Toyota standard features/options sheet (obtained form dealer) shows for Seaside Pearl, Grey or Beige (shudder) as alternates. Good luck ggetting the choice you prefer!

As far as I can tell, getting the exact combination you desire in a reasonable tme is a crapshoot. I still haven't decided if a large or small volume dealer is going to be the best bet. I think the small dealer will try harder to suit you, but won't have as many choices (combinations) comung in. I'm going to try at least one of each. Trouble is, I'm encountering $1000 deposit requirements to dissuade multiple listing. Has anyone had hassles cancelling ant reclaiming their deposit?

The smaller dealers have short waiting lists and small allocations, but think with a popular option/color combination, they will get my preference pretty quickly. Hard to tell how much of this is sales talk.

A large vol dealer said to me that when they get a shipment in they call everyone on their list to see if they want an (approximately matching) car, and if you happen not to answer the phone, they move right on to the next customer -chance lost. Better carry that cell phone at all times!! I'm going to carry a price list spreadsheet too, so if I get a call I can tell if it's a fair price.

What do you people think - large dealer or small? Quality of Toy dealers in NM is unknown too me. (They all swear they won't tack on a premium to MSRP).

Sorry for the popourri of answers and questions.

    Emmett,

I work in San Jose. Could you post the name of the dealer or PM me? I'd like to get on their waiting list.

    Thanks!

I've placed my name on the smaller dealership waiting list and on a larger one. The larger dealership is more apt to get my Seaside Pearl / Leather option pack before the smaller dealership, but the larger also requires a $1000 deposit.

I've already passed on one Prius from my smaller dealership - but that's because they call me everytime they get something similar in.

Before you commit - take careful consideration of the 2006 tax credit.

[attachmentid=626]Attached is the order page in Adobe PDF format.

There appears to be a discrepancy in the Retail Cost of Package #6. Shouldn't it be $25,230 in the Suffix Analysis, not $22,950? This is assuming that the Package price of $3,815 is correct.

My dealer in Portland contacted me yesterday to clarify which package I want now that he has info on the option packages. (I put money down in early September). He didn't mention HK#6 as being available in the Northwest, which is a bummer, because I would really like the fog and driving lamps. I really want the equivalent to the current option package 4, so I chose the HG #4 (even without the lights).

Is this one of those things where Toyota decides to offer only certain packages in certain regions? Do other manufacturers do this?

    Thanks for the PDF!

What do you suppose the "08" Interior color signifies for the Seaside Pearl color? I don't see "08" listed as an interior color code.

Note the rookie in my name to the left? :) I basically used priuschat.com to find out what little info there was on Saturday, and then I signed up and posted more as soon as I had more info to give back. Unfortunately, I was probably viewing the service warranty post or somesuch when I did it, and didn't know that I wouldn't be given an option to classify my topic later.

Do you think I should post just a link to this, or repost the whole thing?

I posted a link on the main thread.

Thanks for the info! It's very exciting. I'm calling my dealer tomorrow to see if he has any details.

Yeah, you're right. That is odd.

Anyways, thanks for the PDF conversion! I added it to the main post with a credit.

The WHOLE THING (i.e., getting a car) is a crapshoot, not just striking gold with options and color.

While I've been buying my three Priuses over a period of four years, I've been paying attention (on three other groups as well as PC) to how others have "found" their cars.

Large dealers or small? Again, a crapshoot, normally, but at this stage of the game (end of model year), edge to large dealers. Smaller ones have generally exhausted their allocations and have no more coming in. As I posted yesterday, Carson Toyota has about half a dozen recently-arrived Priuses---but at a premium.

Assume you've tried Karl Malone in Albuquerque? They had about four the last time I looked, but that was a month ago.

Thanks for the several comments, folks. I'm in NM, and definately(!) looking for an '06, pkg 1 or 3, metallic grey preferred.

" The WHOLE THING (i.e., getting a car) is a crapshoot, not just striking gold with options and color. " [Jack]. For a laugh, look at Dilbert today, and substitute "Prius" for the word "Chair".

I did sign up with Malone, Jack, but their waiting list for '06 is 400! They said I would rise to the top by the end of Feb. Who really knows? Most of the other dealers here are much smaller, some have wait lists from 6-10 only, but correspondingly small allocations. Fortunately the pdf doc indicates a good allocation of my desired Pkg 3, but too much beige!

The 2006 doc is interesting: thanks for posting it. Is it complete and what is is context?

It looks like the base price of the car has not gone up, just the packages. Correct? (NOTES does say "Pricing estimated" still. Also, can we infer that packages 1,2,4, 5 wont be manufactured? A dealer gave me a doc of '06 standard features on Friday (a pdf I saw on one of the fora) that listed all of 1-8. She did suggest that the first shipments may have only some of the options, and that others would appear later as Toyota retooled.

NOTES says 4 NEW packages: Pkg 3 is different from the old pkg 3, it and 6,7,8 omitting audio with MP3 and input jack. in '05 only Pkg 1 did not have these, so they are probably standard equipment now. But it and the others (except #6) add painted door handle and antenna (antenna isn't standard??)

What do you make of it??

My salesperson and I were actually laughing a bit about the "painted door handle and antenna". It could either mean that A) there's no antenna without that option, or B) they slap some paint on the antenna if you have that option. I vote for the latter.

I'm confused. Was your dealer saying that some of the packages would not actually be complete with all listed options until later in 2006?

At any rate, what I realised is that the difference between 2006 package 7 that I want (with everything but leather - which I like in clothing, not in cars, thanks) and 2005 package 6 (with everything) is only $250. I consider that, if anything, a price cut, since it comes with new features that would total over $250 to have added post-market, and general hardware and software updates (it's not a car - it's a human-driven mech!)

400? That number is highly suspect.

You may have missed parts of discussion and info in other threads. All packages are manufactured. But REGIONS determine what packages are received. In CA, dealers will only be SHIPPED 1, 3, 6 and 8.

However, if you want , say, #2 or #7 badly enough, you have two options:

    1) buy in a region whose allocations will include your package

    2) find a dealer who will make the extra effort to get it for you. It can be done and has been.

That's claptrap about "other options being added later".

And I did not post the "2006 doc". In fact, I have doubts that it IS a 2006 doc.

Given what you've said, I'd start shopping in Texas---or California. Put "Texas Toyota dealers" into a search engine. You'll get lists of dealers that you can e-mail if you want. If you want any of the packages I mentioned for CA, contact Toyota of Sunnyvale, Maita Toyota (Sacramento), Toyota of Walnut Creek or even Lithia Toyota in Vacaville. None are charging above MSRP in '06, or so they've said. Lithia's list is under 15, I think (I'm #11).

Oops, sorry--just re-noticed that you want 1 or 3. Me, too. Both available in CA. Probably one or both in TX, too.

Oswaldo, what is the context of the PDF you posted: is it part of a regional delivery advisory? 1150 units does not sound like the whole US. Can you give us the earliest date you know it existed?

Jack I didn't mean to imply you posted this doc. You have a good point about regional differences in package allocations, which I am aware of: this doc could reflect exactly that - 4 packages available for 1 particular region. 1150 units x 10 regions x 12 months = 138,000 units, which is mighty close to the US allocation for the year I was told.

"In CA, dealers will only be SHIPPED 1, 3, 6 and 8. " Jack, is this based on '05 or do you have '06 info?. If it's indubitably '06 info , it means that there will be more than 4 '06 packages - in fact at least 6.

Emmett (alleged to be Sane - you may not be when this is over [or me]!) - The dealer I quoted said she thought the first cars to be shipped would be loaded (perhaps because it was thought the anxious would pay the premium); however I place no particular credence in her words,. So yes, the implication was that some cheaper packages might not appear immediately. The wording in the doc is: "4 new packages"; that does not preclude other old ones reappearing in the previous or a new configuration, or other new ones in different regions, if indeed this is a regional allocation document.

Oops, Just realized it was Emmett who posted the pdf doc from San Jose, CA. Sorry Oswald.

So this IS a regional allocation data sheet. Very interesting. Would like to see some from other regions. How about walking into a dealership and asking for a cc of their Suffix Analysis or Nov allocation sheet: if all else fails show them a cc of this one.

hmmm, $21,815. i have a base price of 21,275 here - thats an increase of over $500, not the three hundred they quote. not sure if that means i get quoted a regional price, or they've got their facts or math wrong, though. further supports the small increase expectation, though. i was rather afeared we'd see a big increase eat into our taxcredit numbers =)
