Anybody know what version the newest Nav DVD is for an '06 Prius? I got a post card from my dealer suggesting I update my DVD ... I last updated it with a version 7.1 disk in 2008 ... Time for a new update ...

Version 9.1 is the most current release.

I have an '05 Prius (VIN begins with letter J). Current installed version of nav software is 6.1 ... Is there a way to upgrade to 9.1 without going thru the dealer where cost is about $300? Thanks.

When I bought the car, I negotiated for a DVD update when the next version comes out. I haven't heard of any freebies otherwise.

BTW, this isn't a bad negotating tactic when buying a car since the salesman is giving something away that will probably not cost him anything (or not much).

I just got the 9.1 Nav DVD from my dealer $199.
It took 30 seconds to install!
    Turn car ON
    Slide driver's seat forward.
Push down two latches and remove DVD access cover.
Push eject release button (upper left corner) and slide to right.
    Old DVD ejects
    Put in new DVD
Push eject release button back to the left closed position.
    Put access cover back on

Check version in DVD Menu .... and YES it is now 9.1

Now I can sell the 7.1 Nav DVD!!

I have an '05 Prius. Does anybody know if it will be able to play the 10.1 GPS version? I heard it was coming out in September.

Is this correct? Something advertised as Lexus Gen5 9.1 will work in a Gen5 Prius nav system?

I believe what Sailfish said is correct. Toyota uses the same generation of Denso Nav DVD systems in both the Toyota and Lexus lines, so the discs should be interchangeable, as long as it is the right generation.

If I have not mistaken, 04-05 Prius are Gen 4, 06-09 at Gen 5, and '10+ are Gen 6.

I have an '06 and I confirm for certain it is Gen 5. I have upgraded my DVD three times (5.1 -> 6.1 -> 7.1 -> 9.1) with no issues whatsoever, but I typically wait until I see a genuine disc show up on eBay (usually around springtime) and pick it up for ~$100 or so, then sell off my old disc.

I appreciate the various comments about your experiences in upgrading the Nav DVD, but I am still trying to understand how I know what the latest version is that will work in my 05 Prius. If the Nav Unit is a Generation 4 do they produce a version 9.1 or 10.1 that is for Generation 4 Nav Units? How do I (or the dealer) know what DVD to order? Thanks.

Lou - If you look earlier in this thread, you will find instructions on how to locate the DVD in the DVD reader that's located under your driver's seat

    Hi RsSharKy,

Sorry for the delay in responding, I was out of town for a few days.

To answer your question, the number on my Gen 5 v9.1 disc is 464210-1380. However, I think the other number (86271-53024) is actually the important one for determining the part number.

On the topic of DVD updates, I hear that Toyota began shipping v10.1 this week - has anyone seen any specs on what this update includes?

    Last year, someone had posted a link (I believe from clublexus.com) which listed all the updated mapping, so you will know in advance how much your area has changed. Here is the release notes from v9.1 last year;

    View attachment Release Notes v91.pdf

Has anyone come across the release notes for v10.1, or else know if any new functionality may have changed?

    Thanks...

Same question as the last post. Does anyone know if the release notes for V10.1 have been posted online anywhere yet? I would like to take a look at what has been updated before I decide to purchase.

If they are somewhere around on the web please post a link.

    Happy driving,
    Chris

Do the Prius models (2011) at the dealer now contain the 9.1 NavDVD, or the newer 10.1 version?

The NavDVD slot is behind the screen, just like the CD slot.

The v8.1 (and v9.1) NavDVD is dual layer, and just about filled, with over 7 GB of "data". Apparently this system uses a very inefficient storage method for the map and POI data, and Toyota had to leave out the "finer details" in many areas. Since there is little room to spare, it seems unlikely that the v10.1 Update will cover "all" USA roads (like the $100 GPS units do with 1 or 2 GBytes).

However, a new version COULD have different software that used more-compressed data, and then cover "all" roads.

Does anybody have a v10.1 NavDVD for the 2010-2011 Prius yet?

I have a 2007 Prius and have had very good NAV Directions on short trips. However, this weekend's trip from Farmington, NY to Shippensburg, PA was TERRIBLE.

I had a Google Maps directions as backup which listed the trip as 281 miles and 5:12 travel time. The Prius listed the trip as 314 miles and 7:55 travel time. I followed the Google and the Prius fought me almost every turn. Each time I checked the NAV displayed miles and ETA before and after the turn and the Prius initially thought the Google path would be longer, but quickly adjusted the miles and ETA to make the Google direction a better choice. Same thing on the return trip. I wish Toyota would allowan update for the 2007.

Also the NAV ETA time is off 1 hour and doesn't match the car's time clock. Is there a seperate clock or Daylight Savings Time adjustment for the NAV?
