The speed (SPD) input into the radio is a violet wire, pin 3 of connector L50, which looks like the attached image. This is if you don't have a separate component amplifier. And, this is for the US model. But it may be the same in Europe....

So, does just cutting this violet wire enable the Nav while driving, or do you have to have some piece of equipment installed to allow you to use it while moving?

No, you can't just cut the wire. If you install a switch (to break the connection when you need to), you only get about 30 seconds before the unit locks you out again. You need to install a device that creates a less-than-3mph pulse signal and feeds that into the SPD connection on the unit. Hawkmoon77 and I both designed very similar circuits that will do this, and these are posted in the thread below. (Warning...LOOONNNNGGG thread - but you need to read quite a few posts in it, to understand what we did.) There's also a second link below to an aftermarket plug-and-play solution (that's about $250-300, compared to the DIY option, which is about $20 in parts but requires some moderate hobby circuit-building knowledge.

Keep in mind, too, that both hawkmoon77 and I were working on Nav units, not the basic radio - but I'm not sure that would matter.
