Screen lock out while driving

    Exactly. I have seen horrible maiming injuries from power tools where there was no manufacturer liability. People do really stupid things. Just because you get hurt doesn't mean someone else is at fault. On the other hand, real negligence does exist. It's important to recognize the difference.

    As I recall, the other issue in the original case was that when the lady went back to McDonalds and requested assistance, she was told to have a seat and wait until the morning rush was over. Essentially, she was told to sit down and shut up until they weren't as busy. This delay and casual disregard by McDonald's management was a large part in the decision in her favor.

    This would also explain why subsequent lawsuits, while appearing similar, were dismissed.

    When I was in Japan, I bought a new Sienta (look it up on wikipedia because this forum will not let me post links with <5 posts. It is a "Sienta", NOT "Sienna") in 2004 with OEM Toyota Navi. There was no software patch with the disk. Instead, to unlock all functions (including DVD, reverse cam and live TV playback while driving) there was a simple wiring harness that plugged in-line to the head unit between the main harnesses and the unit itself. That was it. It cost about Y2000 (about $20 USD) and worked without any software alteration.

    All this harness did was ground the speed sensor out. The navi unit had no changes in function because you weren't altering the GPS unit, just the speed sensor for safety.

    I haven't opened my 2010 III prius' dash so I don't know what the back of my navi looks like, but this has to be an easy build as long as you know the pin placement of the wiring harness. Just ground out the speed sensor.

    Any electrical engineers or electronics techs out there have the equipment to test something like this?

    FYI: removing the speed signal will result in the Nav losing it's dead-reckoning capability. (will not track w/o a strong GPS signal) This could result in Nav malfunction in Tunnels, dense foliage, etc.

    If someone wants to try it, the speed input pin is the Violet wire at pin #3 on connector F on the back of the display unit, and also goes into the amplifier unit on pin #11 connector B (also Violet). This one (on the Amplifier) is probably for the ASL function.

    Do not ground the speed signal out, simply disconnect it. If you ground it, you will affect other systems in the car adversely. You can simply extract the pin from the connector and tape it up.
    (I don't have a 2010, but I do have the wiring diagrams)

    You don't have to stop the car to adjust the audio bass. You might have to stop to adjust the bass (fish) in the back seat??
