Hello everyone. I presume most of you know me, but for any newbies that don't, I'm Evan Fusco, a longtime (since inception of Priuschat) moderator. I'm usually extremely active on the site (to the consternation of some--especially in the political forum!), but for the past 2 months I've made only a handful of visits.

That is because I'm on an extended sabbatical with my family to Australia, New Zealand, and beyond and won't be returning to the US until April 2011. I just wanted to check in, let everyone know that I am, indeed (or unfortunately--as the case might be) alive and well down under.

The internet in Australia is expensive and limited, which is a major reason I have not been on Priuschat much. I will be moving to New Zealand in a week, for at least a month, and should have more internet (but probably less time b/c of work) and might be online a bit more. In any case, I haven't forgotten you guys (and gals) and will be back sometime in April if not sooner.

For anyone interested in our adventure, we have a family blog site. You can start at the first post, or just pick up with the most recent one (on food!). Sign up to follow so you'll get notified of new posts.

Oh--Prius Content--we have seen lot of Prii here--in Brisbane I'd venture that at least every 3rd Taxi was a Prius. And that is despite the significantly higher cost than in the US.

    Hey Evan

I've been to the BP Kwinana refinery in Perth several times on business. I love Australia, maybe because the women are so HOT there!

As a happily married fellow, I'm sure that thought never even crossed your mind, hmmmm?

I'm sure you will have a great time. Keep in touch

BTW the Toyota Prado has the same fender bulge/crack issue that the FJ Cruiser does. Keep that in mind if you hire one

    Fair Dinkum Evan!

I am sitting here watching VK (Hams in Australia) coming through on radio, as well as Radio New Zealand International (in Digital Radio Mondialle). So, well I may never travel down under, physically, I am getting there vicariously....

    Evan,

    Good to hear from you.
Sure have missed your inputs here at PC.

psst! Shouldn't you change your avatar location to say "world
traveller," or Down Under, Kiwi Land, etc? :D

Yeah, a nifty little switcheroo there.
Lucky indeed. No grill blocks, block heater, etc, this year! :p

Enjoy the change of scene and pace. Sorry to say that I and 1.3 billions other in this particular Asian country will not be able to follow along vicariously.

Around here any website containing the words blog or blogspot are routinely blocked. Dem's de breakz.

Oh by the way did you disconnect your Prius' 12-volt battery before leaving?

The Prius is in possession of my uncle who drives it regular for me, I'll be picking it up from him upon return to the US.

We're not going to make it to China, unfortunately...we will be in Hong Kong for a few days.

Nyuck nyuck. Some people here demand that HK is part of PRC. The separate currency and boreder regs. argue against that to some degree.

HK is a great tourist destination IMHO but the cash burn rate there can be pretty high. A high proportion of the folks speaka da English (see colonial history) so you can get by w/o phrasebooks.

Too bad you can't stop by inland. You could meet the new wife-to-be. There, I said it.

Evan, since you're starting summer down under, what other beer is there than FOSTERS? I mean drinkable, that is.
Have a great time. Let us know if you have Kangaroo. Personally, I don;'think I want to, though.

Whoa!!! To a Chinese lady I presume? Congratulations--weird place to announce, but what the heck.

We had plans to visit inland China, but our Around the World ticket got tricky and we had to cut a destination and China was clearly the toughest and most expensive visa to obtain.

But hey, let me know the wedding plans--I'll take any excuse to find my way there.
