    Money money money. ;-)
However I am thinking about going back to them and requesting another car, mainly the one stood outside being a 2010 for a reasonable price for our emotional distress? :p:confused::D:D:D:eek:

Yeah not gonna happen is it? :p

Ok here is an update. We sent an email to Toyota Liar, I mean Lier and this morning received a phone call from the big boss. He was extremely apologetic and in his own words, Embarresed. "It should never have happened" and he just didnt know what to say.

Anyway the car is at the spray shop now so he has asked them to keep it in the spray booth longer (as its designed to be warm and reduce, or remove moisture). The carpets have been lifted and the rear seat removed to check for damage. Everything will be checked and double checked to ensure everything is working as it should.

In addition to this we will receive a written letter stating the car has had this damage which will obviously be proof if something does pop up at a later date. And an extended warrenty.

    Thoughts?

^ That is a good start. Have them pull that door apart too and check/dry everything in it.
I would also ask for addition discount for pain and suffering.

The door is apart. It had been replaced, hence the no window. :p

Well its certainly seems that way from our first contact. TBH he kinda needed to be. Not the normal thing to leave a car outside in the rain with no window is it. I just really dont know what to do. Yes its a start but is it worth the hassle? I love the car but what if?

I was however considering buying a moisture sensor and taking that with me to the car. Should work on the carpets and leather seats. Perhaps I should let that be the final decision. ?

I do like the extended warranty. I feel that is a good offer as if anything is wrong with the car out of its factory warranty then we will be covered. However if nothing is wrong during that period then Toyota have got away scot free....:confused: Hmm what to do, what to do.

If you must purchase the car, Do Not pay for the extended warranty. Ask them to give it to you for free, as the warranty will not cover some of the items listed. Since it is in the rain, and something happen to the car, here is the state, we call it Lemon. But you know what happen so at the end of the day, it is up to you if you really want to continue with the deal or just walk away.

Please understand that you are paying monthly for a car you know back of your head that something happen, and you saw it with your own eyes.

    JR,

+1 on having an extended warranty included gratis to you.
I would expect any lingering corroded electrical contact problems to be
manifest quite a ways off in the future.

It seems like the dealer should be bending over backwards to make
you happy. Any future complaints by you would be against the dealer,
not Toyota. Unhappy customers are said to tell 7 others about their
troubles. Happy ones tell just one or two. How big a town/city is Lier?

It seems like your reluctance to walk away from this "deal" may be based
on anticipating some difficulty disentangling yourself from the dealer.

Just for the record, right now:
    * Who has physical possession of the '05 and '07?
    * Have you given the dealer any money?
    * Is this the only Toyota dealer in Lier?
    * How far away is the next closest dealer?

So, first the car was in an accident, and then it got left out in the rain.
Maybe the car is jinxed, bad "carma."

Someone once told me "If you have any doubts, ANY doubts what-so-ever, do not do it". Even if the car does indeed run fine, in the back of your mind, you'll always be worried and wondering "what if". Is it worth the mental stress of always wondering and worrying?

Regardless of what the BBM is doing and saying, the same people that left it outside, will be responsible for any of the work and checking of the car if it ever needs it. Do you want to trust those same people, after they've been so careless already?

    Hi there.
Ill just explain things a little better than before. There are two Toyota dealers in this area. Main dealer is in Drammen (where I live) and the one I have been dealing with in Lier. Lier is the sub department of the main Drammen dealer. I think business is so good they needed to expand.

Before any of this window open / water damaged happened I was extremely happy with Lier. So much so that I was going to write a letter to pass on our thanks for the customer service received from them over several months. This is where it gets complicated. The car was sent to the main dealer in Drammen for the repair work on the car. It was nothing serious as such, just a scratch that went along the whole length of the car. This meant that everything on the one side needed repairing including the front and rear bumper. It wasnt structual and thats the reason I agreed to the purchase. It was a mechanic in Drammen who was responsible for leaving the car outside in the rain with no rear window, not Lier. The reason I wasnt happy with Lier is that I went and told them this expecting the "OMG, I cant beleive it" statement and got instead "if there is damage, it will be covered by warranty!" No appology, not even an acknowledgement of any mistake made.

So basically other than that, Lier were not the reason of our main concern. And since our communication with the boss of Lier things have been the usual excellent customer service. Hence my reluctence to walk away. Lier didnt damage the car, a customer test driving it did, and Drammen caused the water damage. Lier however is taking resonsablity for it and offering us the extended warranty for free and a letter stating the damaged caused for any future claim.

And in answer to your questions.

    * Who has physical possession of the '05 and '07?
The 05 is now owned by Lier. So the pressure is off concerning payments for 2 cars and 2 insurances. The 07 sale contract to Lier is signed however I beleive is part of the new car deal so can be broken.

    * Have you given the dealer any money?
Nope. The dealer has given us 145.000kr for the 05 and nothing yet for the 07. We havent paid anything for the 2009 (2010) and wont until the car is checked and double checked.

    * Is this the only Toyota dealer in Lier?
As explained above. The next nearest I beleive is a while away but the issue is cost of the car. This ex-demo is 40-50.000kr less than what all the other dealers are selling them for.

    * How far away is the next closest dealer?
    As above.

So there you go. I was going to suggest getting a seperate outside inspector to inspect the car before accepting it?!?

OH and "So, first the car was in an accident, and then it got left out in the rain.
Maybe the car is jinxed, bad "carma.""

Seems so, however does this mean that the car is now over its initial setbacks and will be the best car ever, without the back luck associated with it? :p

    JR,

By the way, through all of this have you been driving the '07 ("under
    contract"), or another car?

Thanks for clearing up what had looked like a "tangled web of deception."

With the inclusion of the free extended warranty, it looks like the
dealer(s) is/are acting in good faith.

The damages to the car don't directly impact the mechanicals, or for
    that matter electronics.

So at this point, only you can try to quantify the real, present benefit of
the reduced price against possible future electrical gremlins.

If it were me, I'd be leaning towards taking the car, and keeping a
close, friendly relationship with the dealer. YMMV.

    Carry on MacBeth. :p

Oh wise wise words. I must admit, the relationship alone is worth alot to us. As I said I was going to write a letter to the boss to state how impressed I was by there dealership. Something I have never done. Just a shame one person in both garages can cause so much distaste.

Oh yes we have been driving the 07 until delivery of the new car. Our insurance obviously. :D

    Thanks alot!!! :D

Just wanted to say thanks alot to everyone for all your advice. The car is back on Friday so then we can go and look at it before we make up our minds.

I have to be honest though, I am still on the fence what to do.

    Anyway thanks again.

Pay an outside car inspector to go over the vehicle.

Specifically site your water damage concern.

Anyway when your done getting hosed by the dealer move to the USA where that kind of coin will get you a couple of Prius cars.

LOL! Yeah I wish I could get a couple for free! I am however going to ask for a reduction in the price. And I was thinking about delivering the car to a test station and ask them to check it over!

    Thanks for the advice.

    Hi there

Yes we got it 2 days ago and Im newly in love. What a lovely car. And I personally think it looks great! :D

They arent stock wheels. 5 spoke 17". Just changed to the winter tyres and wheels that are also 5 spoke but 16".

In the end we got 5000kr off, $860 and a childs car seat thrown in for free. (Worth $774)

There is 2 years factory warranty left and they have extended it by 1 more year because of the water damage. So now a handy three years warranty!

So all in all a pretty good deal I feel.

Thanks alot to everyone for your advice and help.

    John
