I had my first oil change at about 4600 miles. I soon will need another oil change and was thinking of going when I hit about 10000 miles. Would this affect my warranty? They put a stamp in your passport and write down the milage. If it came down to it, could Toyota refuse in warranty repairs stating that I didn't have my oil changed at specified intervals?

It sounds to me like you're in the ballpark with 4600 and 10000. As long as you have proof of the work it should be fine. The proof should include any that you don't do at the agency.

i change my own oil. i'd suggest bringing in your own oil & filter ... or the "shop" might use less-than-par quality!

I think if they were even the slightest bit nitpicking they still couldn't say anything till went over the 10,600 mi. mark. That's the point you could argue that 5k changes to 6k in between changes.

This is sort of like waiting until the last PIP is blinking before you decide to fill up the gas tank. Pushing the limits of recommended maintenance intervals is inadvisable especially with a highly technical machine like the Prius.

He's talking about motor oil--not hacking the software or powering a microwave oven in the glove box. Wait until 10,000 if you like. It's not going to make any difference.

In Holland You have to change oil every 8.000 miles (15.000 km). I think the Prius has the same motor in Europe and in the USA.

In the UK it's 10,000 miles or 12 months, which ever comes first.

Has anyone ever heard of someone losing a court case where the dealer voided the warranty for missing an oil change by 500 miles?

I can understand skipping every other oil change and having warranty issues, but not missing the change mark by less than 25%...
