I've called just about every salvage yard in the Fort Worth area and so far nobody has a Prius. I need a small piece of the dashboard because I want to do some custom "engineering" by implanting a scangauge II down inside of it. However, I'd rather experiment with cutting holes in a spare piece of dash, and if I like it then transplant the whole piece into my working Prius. I figured surely by now some Prius would show up in salvage yards from being wrecked, flooded, etc. But I can't find any. Why is that?

    Two reasons:

    1) High resale values tend to cause wrecked Prius to be rebuilt.

    2) You live in Texas.

Why no Prius in Salvage Yards?

Same reason no Sasquatch body has ever been discovered in the wild.

When a Prius dies, felt covered singing nature sprites emerge and recycle the body.

If you are trying to find a Prius in one of those U-pull-it kind of salvage yard, good luck.
Usually these kind of yards only get car cars more than 15 years old becasue the regular salvage year will get newer one first, the oldest ones that don't get much demand will go to the U-pull-it yards. The oldest Prius is only 11 years old.

    adric22,

I'm CERTAIN there are wrecked Prius all over because there is this viral story of how their TOXIC traction packs are polluting - maybe more than the BP oil spill - it's turning Sudbury into moonscape. :p :p :p

hey, thanks for that! I checked out his website, sent him an email, and I've already arranged to buy the part from him at a very reasonable price.

Like Tom said, they tend to have higher resale values and get rebuilt.

But, I've seen Prius' up in a yard near Vallejo, actually American Canyon. Had 2 or 3 that day. Seat I bought came out of an '06 Prius sawed off in front of the firewall and behind rear seats. Damn nice used seat that came out of that wreck. Lucky. Very humbling experience to 'need' to buy a used seat for 9 month old $30k car. I hope to never repeat that.

I had been looking for a certain small part for Hal.

http://www.autobeyours.com was very responsive, had the part, and offered excellent customer service as well as a reasonable price. They go straight into my Bookmarks.
