Opinions Needed: 6000k or 3000k HID fogs?

Honestly, it's more of a fashion modification than a practical one. I've driven through dense fog after the modification on and off the highway and I can't say I notice any significant difference. I will say that it seems (superficially speaking) that more oncoming cars are flashing high beams at me (none of my forward-facing lights are misaligned, I checked) more commonly with them on. That might be suggestive evidence that it improves my visibility to other, oncoming cars.

My JDM/tuner compatriots seem to like it as well.

Well I don't have factory-fitted fogs. I added the OEMs afterwards so I'm able to control them without having the headlights on (but parking/taillights are on... factory functions work.. i.e. they switch off when the headlight is in the OFF position etc etc) so I wonder if they make a difference. They seem better aimed than the Gen 2 (which I agree are practically useless... my smart's fogs were aimed perfectly with plenty of near and side road coverage).

Yeah it's mostly for looks. I installed 5000K HIDs so I wonder if I should just go with something like Silverstars to match (and they're easier to get) or try for a JDM look with yellow fogs.

Based on the fact that Silverstars have in every case burned out in 6-12 months (for every set I've ever bought, at least), I'd say try the Nokyas since you might get a little longer life out of them (this is my first set, can't comment yet).

Yeah, I just put in one of these $38 ebay HID 6000K on my 2008. I really like the sparkly white light with a hint of blue. They are WAAAYYY brighter than stock and I just tested them in some dense Portland fog. Sadly, the OEM HID headlights all but drown out the fogs. I was really disappointed because the retrofit was so easy and if anything, they run cooler than the horrible 55watt halogens.

The purpose of fog lights is to see the road when your regular headlights cause to much glare to bounce back at the driver. Your regular headlights should be turned off when using fog lights unless you are just using them for decoration.

The longer wavelength (lower K, warmer color) lights will do a better job of cutting through the fog and give less bounce back.

The only problem is...Fontana gets fog MAYBE once a year. I think I would go more for looks over functionality, only because it wouldn't really be functional here...

I went with the 3k fogs. I like them. I got them from ddmtuning.com it was only 25 before shipping.

Are you sure you don't mean 2500k lights?
