    Hey all,

I just had a new set of tires put on the Prius, Yokohama Avid Touring S in the stock size. They replaced the previous Michelin MXV4+ that I replaced the original tires with about 45,000 miles ago.

So far so good, nice quiet tire with good handling and a really nice ride. Very comparable to the MXV4s which were a lot more expensive. At $56 a tire this tire is pretty hard to argue with. I was going to spend more on "higher end" rubber for the car but I came to the conclusion its really not worth it. Very happy with the purchase...bought from TireRack...

    Any thoughts?

I responded to your PM as well.

Still very happy, they are wearing well, MPG is as good or better than the Michelins. Great tire for the money.

Absolutely, if they came in an H rated the size for the Lexus I'd put them on there too...

The speed rating is pretty irrelevant. My stock Bridgestones are V Rated and I dont think I'll ever be going 149 MPH.

But the Prius was designed and shipped with S rated tires. The Lexus was designed and shipped with V rated tires, I wouldn't put anything less than an H rated tire on it.

The upper speed limit on the speed rating is irrelevant, what is relevant is the suspension geometry being designed around a tire with certain load and rigidity characteristics. Those things do change when you change speed ratings.

On the Prius its not an issue, but on the Lexus putting an S rated tire on it would change the way it was designed to ride and handle.
