I haven't tested the Fly unit - but my latest shows the Pioneer (depending on music playing) can both increase and decrease the FE. I haven't had time to figure out what types of music do what .......

jpl has a wind tunnel dedicated to the study of internal cabin audio vibrations and their effect of drag coefficient design, so that's probably what rrollff is experiencing, but it all depends on style of music

That's the crux of it - getting lab time to analyze something as benign as the drag related to both aero + power consumption based on Rap vs classical becomes a hard sell - even in off hours...

I do like the fact that mud flaps actually increase mileage - who would've thought ...

From the looks of your pictures, it appears that the color is a good match, but not so much on the texture. Is that an accurate statement?

Also, any further remarks about your Fly Audio now that you've had it a couple weeks? Any dislikes or quirks that we should know about?

you are correct...the color is really close, the texture not so much but it still looks great IMO.

No funny things have popped up with my headunit, altho FM reception is not as good as I initially thought....buts its not horrible....I was using a 2" stubby antenna and I had to revert to the original antenna for clarity.

100% satisfied and I'd do it again.

So, I called last night to get one of these from the dude you mentioned in the first post, and to ask him some questions about it. I had just bought a RAM mount so that I could put a laptop in the car, since I have 3 extra ones sitting around (am a tech junkie), and I had intended to do audio out to the car stereo system, thru the system's aux port under the armrest. The dude didn't know if that port would be functional any longer, after upgrading to the Flyaudio headunit. Any ideas? He also said something about it having rca connections or something that you would run to (for example) the glovebox. Was wondering if you have pics of this "rca connection" cable, for me to see what it entails. He also said that for the mic that comes with the headunit, that you'd have to run the wire for the mic thru the dash and up to the headliner or somewhere like that. I had intended to do this all myself, but don't know about running something thru the dash... What did you do with the microphone installation? They are out of stock until next week sometime, so am having to wait b4 I can buy mine... Oh, one more thing ---- how's the glare issue on the screen? Am specifically interested in watching movies on it, as I drive 200 miles a day to and from work. I have always had the drop-down screens in front of the rearview mirror to watch movies on in all my previous cars, but the holes in the ceiling are always a dilemma when it's time to trade in. So, I had opted to just use a laptop this time, and/or to get a headunit that had that built into it. I had looked at the hood thing that they sell on the priuschat site that supposedly helps with glare on the screen of the headunit, but didn't know if it would work with this unit. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

Very interesting. Do you know if these FlyAudio units are available over here? Would be an interesting upgrade from the basic CD player in the T3.

    Edit:
Seems they are available in Europe. There is a website http://www.fly-audio.nl/ with an email contact. Not so available in the UK though. :(

    Hello johalareewi,

the FlyAudio unit is available in the EU :)! You only have to perform a google search with the following words: FlyAudio, Prius, EU
Sorry but I am not yet allowed to post the URL here (registered half an hour ago...)
I have ordered one on monday and waiting for the delivery (nice contact in english with Kari Ruhanen from the smartoshop)). Expected shipping time will be 10-14 days.
I also asked my local car hifi shop for installation costs (incl. rear view camera installation). It will be additional approx. 450,- EURO.
I will let you know about my impressions (Quality, fitting, colour etc.) once the unit is installed.
    Many greetings from Germany,
    moepslein

    Hi moepslein.
I have found flyaudio europe in netherlands and have been in touch with Michel Mulder who says they don't have dealer in the UK. I have to find UK company to import one or buy direct from NL.

There is also no literature for the EU unit but it is a bit different to the USA one (for EU market). Also there is no price. How much did you pay for yours?

Would be very interested in your thoughts on the unit and also the backup camera. Did you have to get a special camera? I was thinking of having one as well. Let me know if it is easy to fit.

    I wait for your update!

    Edit:
Is this the link to smartoshop?

    Hi johalareewi,
yes its the right link. I paid 785.97€ (incl. mapFactor Navigator 10 software) for the unit and 55.35€ for the rear view camera. The shipping costs are 50€.
The camera is from FlyAudio too. You can find the camera on the FlyAudio website. Product details are:
    Specifications:25*31(L)mm
    Viewing angle: D:170° H:128° V:94°
    Sensors: CMOS II
I think I will not install the unit by myself. I am afraid to damage some of the plastics...
I will let you know about the camera once all is installed. Hopefully I will receive the unit soon so that I can make an appoinment with the car hifi shop.

just put mine in with the ebay Camry back up camera, I'm real happy with it, the gps comes with the Odyssey system, I'm going to get the tire air pressure option, that looks cool to me, the reception seems no better then stock (might try the mini cooper antenna) and it would of been nice if the screen color came with green (comes blue or orange) to match a little better, the green back lit buttons do match perfect,
    thanks bagwell!

    Hi johalareewi,
I did received it today (smartoshop did not have the unit on stock - But the communication was OK). Look and feel is absolutely OK! I just prepared the micro SD card with the NAVI software and looking forward to have the unit installed on next friday. I will post my first impressions the week after.
    Cheers

    Hi moepslein

I am very interested in your feedback about the FlyAudio unit for the Prius.

Please let us know about your european experience about it.

I see you bought the unit from smartoshop in Finland. I've read that those are imported from Russia and are the same as the chinese ones only with different software, and seem to lack some european improvements as far as Radio/RDS is concerned as well as cabling.

Please let us know if you noticed any issue with the unit so far.

    Thank you very much.
