I am the super-earth-crunchy-mac-man who is also a saleman dressed like Clark Kent during the day.

People assume I bought it to save on my many miles of driving. I never fail to point out the environmental friendliness of the car.

    They don't get it.

I've been accused of being a "Tree Hugger" just for saying that I want one. I haven't told my friends that I ordered one yet.

They all suffer from Prius envy any way. :p

'Orygon' is not usually an unintentional misspelling. It is a phonetic aid for those who try to pronounce it Ore-uh-gone. I first discovered those people in college in the midwest. When I would correct them (Orygun) they would say, smugly, "Well, what about the 'Ore-uh-gone Trail?' Weird.

I've yet to have an SUV owner make a negative comment about the economics of my car. If they do, I hope I have the nerve so say something like "Compared to your milage, I already have regained any added cost; and I've only had my car for a year"

Actually, I've noticed that's exactly how almost everybody drives on the freeway here in CA.

Apparently, it's "safer" to pass in front of a car, ANY car or large big-rig, than behind it, even on a freeway merge lane where incoming vehicles are speeding up, and the vehicle that wants to get out is slowing down.

Somehow it makes more sense to get in front of the speeding-up vehicle.

As prius' start at $30G Cdn in Canada ($35G with the air bags/smart key options) they think that I'm an environmentalist with too much money!

Regular cars like Echos & Civics are around $17-20G Cdn for comparisons.

Incoming vehicles speeding up? Why am I always behind the yahoo trying to enter the freeway at 25?

BTW I fit the non-listed geek category.

Plenty of options, yet no option for OTHER?

When I went to school there were several options where I could describe myself, before a very important multiple choice test.

    African American
    White (Non Hispanic)
    Hispanic
    Asian American
    Pacific Islander
    Native American
    other

I always had to choose OTHER <_<

Well, my guess would that Non-Prius owners see me with their eyes...

    ColdWhite,

Unlike you, I was driving about 150 miles 6 days a week to earn a living as a residential home inspector. I drove a Jeep Sport with tools and ladders on a rack.
I got about 16 miles per gallon. I knew the oil crunch was coming and needed to reduce my gas consumption and expenses. I figured that I have to explain to my clients for not carrying the long ladder. I now carry a telescoping(to 12.5 feet) ladder for low roof and attic inspections only. The industry standards require a minimum of 12.5 feet ladder. Any roof higher is not worth the danger of climbing.

As you can see, I am one of few inspectors who try to stay with inovation and preservation. Savings on the side is also very substantial, not to mention the tax write-off. :D
