    Follow-up to accident:

Well, about a month later, I just got my car back from Autobody of America, good as new.

The repairs for the accident cost about $3500, and Stan was nice enough also to remove a scratch someone had put on my door as well. The other guy's insurance covered the whole thing, and it feels and looks great again!

The bad stuff: obviously it took forever to get the thing back to me, and the insurance company wasn't happy about paying for 25 days of car rental. Also, it was difficult to get an estimate because the car is so new and the parts aren't in the national system yet. Additionally, I think they had confusion in ordering the right parts, and that delayed the process. But on the plus side, there shouldn't be any third-party parts available for this car, so I imagine insurance couldn't skimp on that aspect- I'm sure I got all Toyota parts.

It's like getting a new car again! This has made me appreciate this car all over again, and I'm definitely going to be even more of a defensive driver, even though I wasn't at fault.
I just can't take having to constnatly refill a "gas-guzzling" Elantra rental! ;)

Funny - I traded my wife's Elantra GT in (she got the classic Prius) for the new Prius. She got maybe 20-21mpg in the thing. For a 4 banger, I wasn't impressed w/ the MPG.

I too was just in an accident last night in my 2004 Seaside Pearl Prius. It was at a 4-way stop intersection so we were not going that fast, but the other car was a Ford SUV that crumpled most of the left side of my hood and caused the front end to get out of alignment. She merely had a scratch on her right-side headlamp! :(

I just dropped off the car today at Sandy Springs Toyota here in Atlanta, GA for the body work. I'm hoping that the process will not be that terrible. Sounds like the goods news is that the parts will have to be new since the 2004 model has just come out recently?

But, it sounds like the downside may be the wait if there is a glitch in ordering the correct parts and my insurance carrier (Travelers) not knowing much about the Prius??!!

Any other repair stories out there?
