hrmp... i would've loved the rear camera. does this mean we can have the rear camera installed aftermarket now that they offer it?

argh!!! also now they offer bluetooth without navigation! i would've have bought this option (since i've no use for nav here in hawaii).

I think the BIG difference is the rear camera, in everything except the base and package #1. I really hope they have an affordable retrofit for my '04. What could be better and SAFER than seeing EVERYTHING behind you in the monitor when you back up rather than some small part of it while craning your neck?

A number have answered this, but I wanted to clarify it, listing exactly what is changing, other than colors and leather:

    Standard:
Freshened front and rear lamps (a new look).
New hood design (I'm in the chrome voting crowd!).
Advanced airbags (staged based on speed of impact - a VERY big deal).
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (important for mileage, especially in Hybrids).

    Options:
    MFD: rear camera.
STEREO: MP3-media capability and universal mini-jack connector.

Has anyone noticed they removed the satan black plastic finish from the glove boxes and above the steering wheel on the dashboard? That's how it looks from the photos.

Yeah, they're texturing the whole thing, thank goodness. That flat finish picks up micro-scratches like crazy.

Of course, the texturing will attract more dust. C'est le guerre. :p

Surely you meant to write "satin", unless your Prius is demonized that is.

    :D

That's the first I've heard of this. Where is this information coming from?

Thanks for posting those pics of the new 2006. I just ordered mine today and wasn't sure what it was going to look like. I've been waiting patiently and am very excited about my new '06!

It's not likely since there is no room to retract an antenna into. It is probably just that the antenna was not installed when the photographs were taken.

I doubt very much that these photos are of a 2006... no rims on the wheels and trim missing behind rear wheel. Hoax?

So it was missing the plastic trim rings on the rims. Those are still the rims that are on the 04 and 05, just w/o the trim rings. Also, the plastic behind the reartires under the bumper weren't put on. People have said that both the trim and rim rings are port installed so that may be why they were missing. Also those pics were straight from a toyota site, albeit press release images. If they are fakes someone went thru alot of trouble to make the dash out of the same material as the textured material on the steering wheel, change the front rear lights etc.

Jamarimutt, obviously you haven't been paying much attention to priuschat lately... those are the high res photos from Toyota's press release site for the 2006 Prius.

    Unless it's a conspiracy......

Sorry - before the site went down, someone that worked for Toyota's press company was on the site and discussed about taking the pictures over a month ago.

These were pictures directly from the Toyota NA Pressroom site that did not include the port-added and final trim options.

    Hey all,

Was looking through the paper today and stumbled upon a Toyota Catalogue insert. Up in Canada, the base price is $32,129 + incidentals (PDI, taxes, block heater). Almost a $2,000 increase from the '05 model.

Seems a steep increase. I'm glad Michelle and I were able to purchase before the '06s came out :)
