I've got a Pro.fit mount for my car and one for my boat. It uses an adhesive backed pad to mount the holder to. I had one in my old car and when I pulled the pad off it didn't leave a mark of any kind. They're rock solid and I've never had a problem.

Mine is mounted like the picture on the right side of the console, next to the HVAC controls.

is there anything good out there where I don't have to put some adhesive on the phone?

you don't put adhesive on the phone. it's on the mounting pad, which the holder screws to...the phone slides in and out of the holder like any other mount.

As was said, there is no adhesive on the I-Phone. There are two parts to the mount. One part attaches to the car. There are several different ones. Some clip on the A/C vents. Wiggles too much for me. Some attach to the A-pillar. I don't want it up there. Some attach to the passenger side of the console. My wife doesn't like that. I bought the one that clips in next to the drink holder just below the shift lever. Works great. I am not sure it even requires any adhesive, but there is some, a small strip. Locks in very well. I have a fixed phone mount on another Pro-Fit in another car which works fine, but even though it still works with the IPhone4 I now have, it requires me to remove the rubber case I use on it regularly. For the Prius, I got an adjustable holder. I made it big enough to hold the phone with the case on it. It will slide in and work even if the case is off and the power cord just goes down the side of the console and plugs into the power outlet in the lower tray of the console nearest the firewall. The adjustable holder even swivels horizontally so I can better use the navigon application from time to time.

There are lots of solutions. Google car mount IPhone. You will get lots of hits.
