We have a 2005 with standard rearview mirror. I just came back from the junkyard where I paid $75.00 for a pristine electrochromic mirror with Homelink. Included was the plug and about 2 feet of wiring that he cut out of the headliner. I understand all it needs for wiring is a constant positive connection, a switched positive connection, and a ground. I don't want to fry any electronics by hooking it up incorrectly, so does someone know which wires are which? There is a plain black wire, a red wire with a gold dot every two inches along the wire, and a white wire with a black stripe and a gold dot every two inches along the wire. Common sense would tell me that the black is ground, the red is power, and the white with black stripe is switched, but nowdays common sense rarely applies. I don't want to burn up my new mirror! Help! Which wires are which?

Yes, it's the auto-dimming mirror with three buttons for gates/garage door openers, etc.

Did you ever figure it out? I am interested as I am in the same boat. I have a 2005 and want to put Homelink/auto dimming on.

It may be a bit more complicated than just finding a power source. I bought one for my '04 through the dealer at the time I bought the car new. I paid $195 for it installed, and as I remember it, the tech told me it involved removing the headliner to connect the wiring somewhere in the rear. There must be some reason they would do it that way, when you have power to the courtesy/reading lights up front. It always worked fine, and I was glad that my '06 came with the upgraded mirror/opener, as I find it very handy.
You might want to try contacting Homelink to see if they can help with instructions on installation. They offer help with programming the unit to various garage door and gate openers.

red wire is constant power source
    blk wire is ignition
    white blk wire is ground

i hook up red wire to overhead interior light power wire which is red color
and the white blk wire, i hook it up to overhead interior light ground wire, which is white blk color
and the mirror blk ignition wire, u have to route it to the radio's ignition wire!
