Disable Low temperature indicator light

Actually, there is a patch to get rid of the light Disable Light

 

For an otherwise unreliable POS GM-made vehicle, my 2000 GMC Sierra SLT was "smart" that way. The compass/temp display was in the rearview mirror, in a small window of one corner of that mirror.

If driving along and you encountered a sudden dip in temps below freezing, it would display "ICE" in the display. After several minutes it would go out.

In cold temps (-20 C or colder) the display would blink "ICE" for the first 20 seconds when you started the motor, then it would go away.

What I don't like about Toyota's implementation of the Slippery Road warning indicator is that it's in the same cluster as caution and warning icons. It's also the same color as caution icons. I'm afraid folks who drive in cold temps will get used to a yellow light on their dash and not pay attention if another yellow light turns on.

 

The Cold light is blue, I think.

It looks like the only way to get it to go out is to disconnect it's temperature sensor. I HAVEN"T TESTED THIS, but it looks like Connector A6 (approx in the front center of the car, like in the grille) is the ambient temperature sensor. For all we know, then it will default to "cold" and the light will be stuck on. Try this at your own risk.

All the logic for it is contained within the combination meter, so nothing to unplug there. If you are adventurous, you could open the dash...

Maybe a 555-timer based one shot can be devised that will turn it off after 5 minutes, but that's a whole 'nother story.

 

Nope, it's orange/yellow, same color as the other Caution lamps. The Warning lamps are red.

 

Was at a company event rather late today, so drove in the dark. When the Auto headlights turn on (Sorry not available in the U.S.) the indicator is blue in the warning lamp cluster.

Another blue indicator is the cruise control one. For some reason the Canadian market cruise control indicator is actually "cruise." Not the international symbol for cruise control, like my GMC Sierra had.

I have never noticed a "cold engine" indicator on my 2004 Prius. I'm sure I would have during all that -40 driving last winter.

 

Well here in Minnesota our "little snowflake" came on today - Amber! I'm kind of a freak about warning lights....might have to resort to electrical tape as I think Hawaii is out of range for me

 

yes there isn't a cold for the G2 the light is now the Hi temp light.

 

Hmmm my color differentiation is poor. I can easily differentiate red and green though. Ok I'll call it green.

When I get home from work I'll scan and post the symbol. It looks like a circle with hack marks, and an arrow pointed to one of the hack marks.

Mine just came on for the first time today (NE Indiana). I saw a cold temperature warning prompt come up at the top of the MFD for a few seconds when the light came on.

I didn't really notice the amber snowflake much after that, as it seemed to be embedded with a lot of other indicators that were on, like cruise and lights (etc). Maybe I'll dislike it more later, right now it's too new to me...

 

I would call the information colors on the dash cyan. The speedometer is definitely cyan. Now the high beam indicator is blue.

I agree, amber for the snowflake is flaky. Could easily make passengers nervous.

I agree that amber for the snowflake is a little extreme. The snowflake is really an advisory, not a caution.

Where did you get your block heater? Do you have the Toyota part #? Do you have an '05 Prius? Did you do the install yourself?

Forget about the low temperature light. At least that one only comes on during part of the year...

What about that headlight status light! And that high beams status light! Every time I turn on the headlights or the high beams, those stupid lights come on! They're just so in your face! Toyota should get rid of them. It's the only thing I hate about the car. (well, other than the reverse beep)

 

You can turn off the reverse beep, and no seat belt at speed beep. I did, and I love the quiet. See the knowledge base for details.

 

Yeah, where's the black band aid for that ST*PID "YOUR HEADLIGHTS ARE ON NOW" indicatior. Actually, I have some black gaffer tape and a pair of scissors which I'm grabbing right now. BTW, pet peeve # 823, THE BLACK HOLE between the driver and passenger's seats (on the console side). Drop your keys down there and BABY, don't even try and get them until you STOP, Put it in Park and fish from behind. I learned that Black, dense, closed cell foam does wonders to plug up the space.

Marlin, you know that it's possible to delete the 'beep in reverse'. Mine is OUTAHERE!!! Now nearly entirely BEEP FREE at 550 miles and counting!

Yes I know. I've done it already.

It may not have been obvious enough, but my post was a parody. I think this whole low temperature light rant is a bit silly and frivolous.

 

The headlight indicator is likely a byproduct of the auto on/off headlights offered in some countries. With auto on/off headlights is often useful to know if the car has turned them on or off.
