If anyone is considering the Michelin Energy Saver A/S tire it is definitely the BEST choice for the Prius! I just had them installed and my MPG went up by at least 3-4 MPG. They also ride nice and smooth with plenty of traction.

Michelin has a winner here! I highly recommend them!

Seeing that much of an improvement from a tire not even broken in yet is highly unusual.

It probably is an excellent choice. I certainly liked the Michelin tires on my previous Prius. So, I'll be looking into them with the 2010 later too.

However, part of the MPG bump you're seeing is probably from PSI increase. It will automatically go up as the temperature does. That in itself would have an influence. Squishy tires prior to the replacement would too.

What is the PSI you're driving with?

John! Are you forgetting the guy who got a 5 mpg increase by just removing his passenger seat!? :)

But yeah... that's a HUGE increase over the stock tires if everything else is equal. Can't determine these things on one tank. Average it out for a while and see how it looks. Still, nice to hear about tires that work well on the Prius.

Yes. Thanks. I am taking into account the temperature increase and the springtime formulation of the fuel.

But I can see the tires have made a difference as well.

RE: PSI. I run 38 in the front and 36 in the rear. I am not a fan of pushing it beyond that. Safety reasons, etc.

In the long term, I would expect the Energy Savers to produce an approximately 4.74% increase in MPG over the OEM Integrities.

4.74% was the increase TireRack.com measured in its August 2009 apples-to-apples tests of Integrities, Energy Savers and other low rolling resistance tires on a 2009 Gen II Prius:

When Round and Black Becomes Lean and Green

I wonder how the Energy Savers perform in snow and ice. (TireRack did not test the tires for snow and ice performance.)

Marvin, I'm with you on the pressure thing! However, I've read somewhere that the LRR tires tend to wear out quite a bit faster than the regulars. That is especially true for the Orange Oil tires. I looked at the wear ratings and the MPG gains using TireRack, etc., and decided that the fuel savings and tire replacement costs just about canceled out. But they are slicker on damp pavement - remember the Goodyear (not so) Integrities?
I stick with the Michelin MXV's and everything is GOOD!

My front tires have good tread. Should I buy only two new hydro edge or forgo the wasted tread on the two good Falcons and get a full set ?

replace all 4 tires and strongly consider implementing a tire rotation plan to eliminate your current dilemma

Reading that test report, the Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 seem to be a better tire overall, almost identical rolling specs, but better than the michelins in several other vital areas- like ride comfort, wet braking, etc.... my 2 cents

Good points. Yes, you have to factor everything into the calculus. In this regard, note that the Ecopia EP100 is a summer tire, and probably is not the better choice for those who need a good all-season tire.

One interesting thing in the report is the Integrity's dry braking performance -- the best of this small bunch of tires. I thought it interesting because the Gen II Prius with the OEM Integrities has well below average dry braking performance. When I ran the numbers last year, the Gen II Prius ranked in the lowly 11th percentile in dry braking performance among the over 100 then current model sedans tested by Consumer Reports.

I read somewhere else on this forum that the Goodyear Integrities that come from factory may be different than the ones purchased here in the States. Its very possible that Tirerack used a fresh new Goodyear Integrity from their own stock, assuming it would be the same as what comes from the factory in Japan, which it may not be.

Your point about the EP100's being a summer tire is an important one. A recent check of TireRack shows Bridgestone has recently introduced an all-season tire in the Ecopia line, the EP 422. I'm hoping TireRack will test soon.

After 41K, I just added Michelin Energy Savers. After a few thousand miles I enjoy the tires. This is a more comfortable tire over the stock tire. Gas mileage seems to be the same. Tire is solid at higher speeds [80+].

I'm getting 110K miles on Michelins on my Wrangler, I figured I could get better than 41K on the Prius stock tires.

I just put 4 on my Gen II, while the MPG seems to be better, 1 to 2 MPG better, I really notice how much better the car rolls as I hypermile along! I am running 40 PSI!

The Ecopia EP20's an all season version that's been out quite some time now. It comes stock on 2010 Prius with 15" wheels in our area. We re-tired our our '06 Civic Hybrid with that those, seemed on par with the OEM Bridgestone Insignia SE200_02.

We have well over 30,000 miles on our Michelin Energy Tires, 195x65x15.

Tires inflated to 44 psi max on all four with Costco Nitrogen, thats where
    we bought the tires.

So far an increase of 2-3 mpg over factory stock Yokohama Avid tires,
more quiet, and as far as treadwear I am sure they will go 60,000.

I am truely surprised that Costco would EXCEED the recommended fill pressure for the tire. On my paperwork, in big bold pring was the PSI that they were to fill it to, and not to exceed that number. I asked!!! As soon as I got home, I diluted the N buy adding a little O2 and other gasses until my pressure guage read 40 PSI!~!!!

Costco did per my request. They however will not exceed max
sidewall pressure which for the Michelin Energy Tires is 44 psi.

Its nice to have max sidewall pressure. Just like today my wife and I picked up my sister and brother in law in Portland, OR.

There was the four of us, not little people by no means, and their luggage. Car ran great and still got 48 MPG, true, not computer generated.
