I guess I'm somewhat in a minority here in that it really doesn't excite me much one way or the other. If I had to back out of a 1/4-mi long driveway, I'm sure that would be different, but I just don't spend a whole lot of time in reverse. Had I known it was an option to do so, I'd probably have had the dealer change it to one beep when I bought the car, but I'm not going to spend a nickel to change it now.

I will say I *am* glad it is *not* on the outside of the car; this world is too full of unnecessary anthropogenic noise as it is. Just my opinion and I respect those who differ.

its a great design but not for the sound itself.. to high.. a lower sound would be better

My preference would be two sounds: Alternating, computer-generated voices, the first cooing mellifluously, "You are now backing up...you are now backing up..." and the second saying, with growing impatience each time, "No s**t... No S**t... NO SH*T, I KNOW IT, SHADDAP ALREADY..." ;)

I got the beeping switched as well. Since we have a Prius iV with backup camera, it is really easy to see the camera show up on the GPS sceen. I can easily see it in the corner of my eye. Also the single beep is more than enough warning to let me know I am in reverse.

the persons is a police officer asking you to not backup and go forward right know because a ambulance is comming
ofcourse you dont have the peeps and you press the gas padel hard and instead of going forward you backup against the police car...

exactly. I think we are relying too much on electronics and aids when the driver should be aware and responsible of what condition his or her car is in. They should know it is in reverse or in drive.

Having a loud beeping inside the car distracting a driver from hearing things going on outside seems like the opposite of safe IMHO. But that's just me I guess :)

Exactly my feeling! One beep is great but I found continuous loud beeping so annoying and distracting that I probably would not have bought the car if it could not have been disabled.

most of the newer vehicles I've had with a manual tranny, I had to contort myself to get it into reverse. it was never easy to do and very very unlikely to happen by accident (no pun -- well yep pun intended)

well first i think those cars also need a warning
and i never said that i liked the hard high toned beeb i just wanted to point out its a good thing there is a warming.

second when in a normal automatic with a big stick inbetween the 2 front seats its a bit more noticable what gear your in.
thats the same with a manual.

it would be nice if the beep would sound not as high and maybe a longer pause inbetween.
i like the Gm or ford? ...well american car bell thats used on t he older ( not sure the modern also have that ) when your seatbelt is off. again with a litle more pause

I would be happy with one beep and a flashing dash light. On a manual trans., it's easy to tell if you're in reverse IF you're looking at the dash or stick, but on an auto trans., you still have the dash indicator, but some are more clearer than others based on the lever/stick position. I've seen drivers shoot forward when they thought they were in reverse in a non-Prius vehicle, so it happens in other cars that supposedly have tell-tale indicators. It come down to the driver being aware or not of what they're doing behind the wheel.
