Navigation Freaks Out

I really, really did not like the Nav on the Prius.. I loved the back up camera, but hated the Nav on it... I would just stick with my Garmin if I were to purchase...

 

Do you realize that there is more than one "Las Vegas?" Perhaps it could not tell whether you wanted Las Vegas, NV, or Las Vegas, NM.

 

Hi Jason, and all others - don't get me wrong and I hope you find a solution to your problem. But this is exactly one of the reasons I did not get the Navi option on my Prius.

Among others, what I don't like of integrated Navis (not just Prius'):
1) overly expensive (my Navi from Tomtom, latest generation was 300€, to get a Navi on the Prius, including all I can get from an iPod in terms of music..., you have to pay 3050€ in the middle trim; in the executive trim, that is 2000€ more expensive than the middle one, you have to pay "only" 2000€...).
2) hardware cannot be upgraded (for example, now available are Navis in Europe that use mobile phone network information to know where traffic jams are building up (they are sold as "LIVE services") - if you have a built-in Navi with TMC, you cannot upgrade it to the new version - you are stuck with it the whole life of the car)
3) if it is broken, after warranty, you cannot simply replace it with a new model for a couple hundred of €, from whoever you want (TomTom, Garmin, etc.) but only with a (very expensive) replacement from Toyota (if you want to keep the original looks - obviously you can buy an integrated Navi from somebody else, likely loosing some of the integrated functionality)
4) you cannot use it when you leave your car; a portable navi can be used also when you walk someplace

Benefits:
1) no "taking out" operation each time you park the car
2) high accuracy of location because it can use information from the wheels (e.g. in tunnels, though several portable Navis have gyros to avoid this)
3) no "mount in" each time you get into the car...

It is obviously a matter of personal preference, but reading the OP, made me think I made the right decision (for me) getting a portable Navi instead of dishing out (a lot of) money, to get what I (personally) consider an overpriced Navi (even with all the additional features that come with it).
I find the prices (of all manufacturers, not just Toyota's) for the "navi" options simply outrageous - a total rip-off.

 

It seems like they did it yesterday in the dealer but the problem is still there. I am still waiting for them to call me with a solution. I have been with the car less than a month and believe me I will bitch about it until I get it fixed, replaced or refunded. This system is too expensive and over priced to not work correctly. I will let you know...
