JBL system: Will changing speakers without replacing JBL amp help?

I just got a used 2008 Prius Touring with the JBL 9-speaker system.

Will changing the speakers and running them off of the JBL amp and stock radio improve the sound? If so, any speaker recommendations?

The JBL amp puts out 4x45 at 2ohms, right? Does that mean I should buy 2ohm speakers to take advantage of the full power?

Also, for the tweeter, how can you upgrade them without messing up the look? Should I only upgrade the midbass woofers?

Lastly, should I look for 2ohm speakers?

There are many thoughts on this one!
Some will say RIP IT OUT and start over....here are theads on that, search them out.
I went the route of just adding a powered subwoofer, the BOSS BASS600!
As a point of reference, I listen to my JBL system usually no louder than level number 30. I feed a Ipod into the 2nd CD input thru a Dice adapter unit. Since you just got the car, notice when you change the volume, a numeric indicator pops up in the upper right quadrant of the MFD, indicating volume level!
I always thought I just needed a little extra bass and the system sounds fine for me!
I imagine that quite a few of the regulars out here will pitch in with all the great mods they have done to their systems. All great jobs!!! Wait a little bit before you buy, read, chat, and then post pics of the results!!!
    Good Luck!!!

I unplugged the center speaker like everyone said and it sounds MUCH better. I'll keep listening and see if I can be content with it.

If so, I'll just look into adding a sub.

there will be a small gain in audio quality, and yes you have to use 2 ohms speakers only
the subwoofer idea is good, a small tube or infinity box with built in amplifier will help

I'd like to get a sub, but want it to be stealth, so it has to fit under one of the seats or in the secret compartment and it has to be powered. Any suggestions, or are the best choices the Boss Bass600 and Bass1200 (will if fit?), or Kenwood KSC-SW10?

See...some might say what I did was a bit unnecessary, but meh. It is what it is.

I also have the 9-speaker JBL system, but I blew out the front passenger 6 1/2 real quick. So I upgraded to some higher end JBLs (Not sure of the model) just in the front door speakers. I felt the tweeters were fine, so I just left those.

All that was not so unnecessary; however, I added subs...

I went ahead and added 2 x 10" Kicker CVTs powered by a 1000w Performance Teknique Amp.

...I average 45 - 50 on the volume level. And yeah, I'm one of those assholes you pull up next to at a stop light and your car shakes. =\

I also went ahead and got the iPad for it as well. Just makes it that much more unnecessary.

I'll upload some pictures for those of you that are curious.

Has anyone just upgraded the component speakers in the front and run them off the JBL amp? If so, what did you buy and how did it sound?

How many watts does the JBL amp output?

Grayson what did you end up doing?

I need to upgrade the stereo. I have the JBL and it just isnt cutting it either. I think I will start off with Boss Bass and go from there. Does the Boss Bass 1500 not fit under the rear carpet?

So you just pop out the center channel and unplug it and it sounds better?

    Thanks

Yes, I unplugged the center and it sounds a LOT better. I think I am satisfied enough with the JBL speakers. I plan on adding the Boss Bass1500 under one of the seats. It will fit under the rear carpet as well, but might sound muffled. Maybe someone who has it there will comment.

How do I go about unPlugging the center speaker does it just have clips holding it in? Well Im sure I'll figure it out.

Yes, just pop it out. I forgot if you pop it out from the back or the front.

I have a 2008 Prius with the JBL system and I just upgraded all 4 speakers and to tell you the truth, I'm not that happy with the change. They are recommending I also install a thin amp (Rockford) that will fit under the passenger seat as well. The amp won't be available till March.

Upgrading the system while keeping the look and controls stock is becoming a difficult problem. I haven't unplugged the center speaker yet. I've written the store about the Boss BASS1500 so I am interested in what they say.

Personally, I am interested more in an increase in treble than bass and am not sure what the sub would do for me. Could use a nice increase in volume also!

Got a feeling I'm gonna end up putting a bunch of money hoping for a good outcome.
