    Ok, the Owners Manual says:

    "Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-20"

The dealership's service department (assuming that's who you used) should be following this. I'd try asking them to drain it and put in OW20, and change the filter, free of charge, right of way. In short: they screwed up, please fix it.

If they refuse, stay cordial, but let them know you will be contacting Toyota. That might tip things.

Re: Would you change the 05 20W in the Prius?l

Yes I would run it for 5K then change to 0W20 and go to 10K oil changes from then on. If the dealer used the wrong oil, i.e. 5W20 vice 0W20 they should owe you an oil change. It will not damage the car in any way to use 5W20 it is only a question of meeting warranty requirements. A lot of dealers will try to get you to change oil every 5K, it's a waste of oil and money. They are just trying to get you to come in twice as often.

It will not hurt to change brands, I use Mobil 1 but Toyota's oil is fine also. I would not hesitate to use almost any of the others that are available as long as they are 0W20 synthetic and have the ISLAC or API symbol on the container (see pgs 560 and 561 of the owner's manual).

If you can't get the oil brand you want any good auto parts store can order it for you and most dealers will let you supply your own oil. The dealer here will change oil for $18 (that was a while back it may be a little more now) if I bring my own and they will supply the filter.

Of course it you ask for a 5K or 10K service it will cost more but you can do the other stuff yourself. Tire rotation every 5K miles is a waste of money, they really don't need to be rotated that often if they are wearing correctly.

Mendel and Tumbleweed thank you for taking the time to reply. I now know it will not hurt running the oil. Not being rude, yet, it jacks me the many people in this world that can not read or do not care to comprehend what they read.

    Thanks again for the assistance!
