just a comment to the obvious...

it is obvious that Fletch is an alarmist. he has a right to voice his opinion although he doesnt seem to be very willing to defend his position but anyway...

I have a 87 Corolla and a 94 Toyota PU and in both vehicles, the gas warning light comes on about just under 3/8th of a tank. now because they have analog gauges, it is easy to ignore the bright red light.

and i guess that is the reason why no one has complained about the gas gauge in any of those cars.

I also noticed that Fletch tried another post with similiar complaints. I am beginning to think that Fletch is a lawyer trying to drum up business for himself.

He wasnt the lawyer who tried to bring suit against McDonalds for making America fat was he?

Counterpoint re the gas gauge in the Prius: The Prius tank has an experimentally usable capacity (with bladder) of 11.4 gallons (per another thread on this forum). With that information, the Prius gives us TWO ways to determine when to fill up.

The first is the guess gauge, which will tend to err on the side of safety. Not a bad choice for Toyota, nor for those who don't want to bother thinking.

The second is that lovely cumulative tank mileage display on the Consumption screen. If you set odo A or B to zero when you fill up, your current MPG on the screen x 10 gives you the odo mileage at which you should consider filling up. You've used 10 gallons, and can go screen MPG more miles before getting in any real trouble- far enough to find some cheap gas.

I don't know of any other car that gives you sufficient information to make such intelligent determinations!
