While my wife and I were visiting her family in Torreon, Coahuila in mid January, I spotted a brand new Prius rolling off the truck at the dealer around the corner from where we used to live.

At first I couldn't believe my eyes. However, as many of you may already know, the Prius is now for sale in Mexico.

That said, I drive a 2004, and thought that when we return a couple years from now that we would probably sell it and I'd buy something like a Scion because it would be horribly inconvenient if something went wrong on the car 6 or 7 hours from the border with nowhere to service it. Now that they are selling the newer models, would it be fair to assume that they will have familiarity with the Prius and could acquire parts and perform service if we ran into any issues?

I didn't know that Prius was available in Mexico, thanks for pointing that out.
    Prius

Consider that US dealers have been selling Prius for 10 years and even now the quality of dealer service is "uneven". Since 2G Prius was not sold in Mexico it is unlikely that 2G parts will be readily available. Hence, you may do well to get rid of the 2004 before you resume your residence there.

Not what I wanted to hear, Patrick!
It is a good point, though I tink upon returning to Mexico it would likely be a second vehicle, or perhaps a hobby car. You know, something to convert to LPG or something like that.
