Dension IceLink now taking preorders

    However, it looks like it is for the classic iPods only. What the heck, why would they be working on this as a priority? C'mon Dension, we need support for the current stuff!

    I own a Riocar / empeg mp3 player, which I had in my previous car. I plan on installing it soon in my Prius.

    Someone has already installed one of these in their 2004 Prius. Apparently the head unit has line level outputs, which can be switched out to other line level outputs with a simple relay. Not sure if an iPod has non amplified outputs, but this just might be another AUX input method for users beyond the empeg.

    ICELink v1.1 for iPOD now featuring interchangeable connection options to support all current iPOD models - classic, 3G and mini.

    Dension ICE-Link v1.1 is now available for pre-order. The new generation ICE-Link is using the Apple dock connection for both charging, control and the audio signals.

    It seems though that ICElink 1.1 is not available yet for Prius. From my reading of it, 1.0 is available.

    Any one else know?

    Curious what people think of the different iPod integration options coming out this year. From what I've seen there are three options:

    1) Dension ICElink: Seems to be the closest to production/shipdate, seems to utilize the steering wheel controls on the Prius, but doesn't use the screen unit to display track information.

    2) Alpine iPod system: Promises integration with steering wheel controls and screen, but I'm suspicious about being able to support all kinds of car types right out of the gate. Seems to be pretty far off still, although they say it will be summer.

    3) Coastal e-tech: Not too sure about these details, but it seems this will be available second. I don't think there will be screen integration. Dave, any information on this?

    Do people know about other options? Any advice or suggestions?
    Right now I might jump on the first thing that comes available, which seems to be the ICElink, and then regret the lack of screen support later.

    I'm getting sick of the cassette adapter!!!! (and the iTrip radio transmitter I promptly resold on eBay)

    Just wanted to add that i just got an email from Dension. I had asked if the CD changer in the Prius was compatible with their product.
    They said:

    "

    Sorry, but your 6 CD changer takes the port that iceLink would use,
    so you can't have both.

    Dangit! I don't want to forsake the CD player, although I admittedly rarely use it now with the iPod. What does anyone else think?

    I am about 99.9% sure that they are referring to a stand-alone cd changer - like one that would go under your seat or in your trunk. Your in dash 6 disc changer DOES NOT take up the port, as far as I know.

    Rick (htmlspinnr) can probably answer this more accurately.

    I thought that was the case as well, judging from their website. So, I specifically asked about the Toyota-installed in-dash 6 CD changer, and that is how they replied. However, I don't fully trust that support system because they ignored the rest of my question. Below is my original quetsion and their response.

    There are two CD changer options for the Prius. The "Factory" one that is usable without opening a panel, and the "dealer" one that you must open the lower panel to use. The icelink only conflicts with the DEALER player. If you want to keep your dealer player, you need one of these:

    I have one in my Camry. I know they don't list the 2004 Prius, but they also don't list the 2000 Isuzu Trooper, and the TOYOTA kit works in that one as well. It really just has to have the right connector and signaling.

    This kit will only give AUX in, it won't give steering wheel controls or charging. I would mate it with this:

    For line out, power, and remote controls.

    Other than that, you can get the icelink, rip out your "dealer" 6-cd changer, keep your in-dash single disc, and use the ipod for your jukebox needs. You probably won't be able to remember the last time you used it.

    I received the Dension Icelink 1.1 the other day. Maybe because I live close to them I got it so fast.

    There is only one problem. I don't have a Prius yet. :(

    I have only been on the list for a month or so now, so who knows how long I will have to wait. I can take ownership of a TRAC one on May 7th but don't know if I should get it or not. I think I am but have not committed 100%, although 99% is pretty close. :)

    It's a Tideland #8 which you can't even order. This is the package that I want anyways. It had 2115 miles when I looked at it several weeks ago. They still have the right to rent it out until May 7th but I hope they are hiding it for me.

    I was wondering if those of you who are waiting on the list would take advantage of this opportunity if it was available to you? Let me know what you think.
