This chip is supposed to increase performance & gas mileage. Has anyone heard of this or is this one of those gimmicks? It has two wires that plug into the Iat sensor & reprograms the ECU

You cannot "chip" a Prius. And yes, this is a gimmick and yes this thread is in the wrong forum. :)

I'm still lmao at the thought of reprogramming the Prius computer through the IAT sensor. It's akin to saying I am going to perform brain surgery by inserting a Q-tip in your rectum.

Lieing about the intake air temperature is going to produce a lot of pollution of course. That is why your car HAS a sensor there, to help be a good citizen.

Would it produce more power if it could not guess the air temp? That seems unlikely. The fuel/air ratio almost has to be wrong if it is getting wrong inputs. Could the gas mileage be better? Perhaps if it went lean, but a lean engine is an overheating engine, so long life will not be a feature.

Here is the real question for any snake oil. Toyota spent thousands getting the Prius as fuel efficient as they could, how did they miss this improvement? Either the engine won't last, the cat won't pass emissions or it does not work. Otherwise it would be stock.

Lighten up. I took F8L's response as simply explaining to you why AS YOU ASKED..."is it one of those gimmicks?"

Employed some friendly sarcasm in explaining why it is a gimmick and in answering your question. You can be offended or you can laugh...it was pretty funny. I don't see why you should be offended, unless you are the manufacturer of the said Snake Oil....

Nasty responses? No way. You got our opinions. What answer did you want? Should we have said it was a great invention that Toyota had missed and that you should invest $18 of your hard earned on something that was going to pay for itself in weeks?

If you're that easily upset then I fear you'll not make too many friends on here, alternatively you could still choose to ignore our opinions and add your own opinions and views to this or other threads and eventually gain some insight into the workings of the Prius.

Upto you - it's your call.

I'll accepted blame for this one. As stated above, I was poking fun at how rediculous the manufacture its for trying to sell snake oil. I should have been more clear in my post that I was making fun of the manufacture and not that OP. My apologies for coming across like an nice person. :(

I come across like an nice person all the time...doesn't slow me down...

I recommend the Jedi Force Chip...basically an empty Menthos Box I place on my dashboard and everytime I want better gas mileage I rub it and exclaim "Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi"....

I've seen a 15% increase in gas mileage...a 10% Horse Power increase AND these are not the droids you are looking for....

I installed this and "Yes," it actually does improve performance. But it also drops MPG. Easier little ways I've increases performance include removing the charcoal pad in the air filter box, using a K&N filter, changing the radio antenna to a 'shark' fin version, adjusting the back window wiper so that it is perfectly vertical/straight to the airflow in its rest position, etc. :cheer2:

Yes I bought it and it did nothing... I sent it back and the new one did nothing... don't do it, it is worthless and won't increase MPG at all...
No matter what the site says...The company was nice enough but no refunds just replacements... :(

uhh.. are you serious?.. and with what proof... a butt dyno?

you do realize that the ECU will automatically adjust and over time.. make that little overpriced snake oil completely useless?

yea... snake oil in whatever shape or form.. is still snake oil... and that's what this is.

If a simple altering of the programing with a chip could do what's claimed, all the manufacturers would have incorporated that into the cars already! Now the Tornado or Fuel Genie, those work miracles... Joke!

You mean that brain surgery q tip in the rectum is a fraud too? Dammit! I knew I shouldn't trust a brain surgeon who wears black leather underwear and calls himself "The Marquis".
