Is this normal? cracked seat already. Warranty covers!

My 2010 has a bunch of cracks in the leather. The car only has wear of 45000 km. Is this relatively normal? How can I further prevent this from happening? Would something like this be covered under warranty?

Turns out it's covered under warranty. :)

Not normal, and should be covered under warranty.

Mines over a year and a half old (bought June 2009) and I have no cracks in my leather... Definitely take it into the dealer and see what they have to say.

While I have no recollection of it I'm kind of worried it may have been my ring while I was rustling to use the lever, but I don't think so considering the cut at the far back. Does it look like excess wear cracking or somehow it got sliced? There are indeed a number of wrinkles from wear so I'm not sure.

It looks like a split and not a cut. This has more jagged edges. Since it's on the side of seat, maybe it can be repaired? Is this this only instance?

Looks like it was sliced by something to me; that does not look like wear.

If I remember correctly, the leather is only on the seating surfaces, so this area should be vinyl. It looks like it might have been damaged by a sharp spot in the plastic seat trim directly below it as you enter or exit the car.
A vinyl repair probably wouldn't be a permanent fix as it's a stressed area.
I'd take it to the dealer for their opinion and hope that they'll step up.

    Good Luck!

Does not look like wear to me either. Depending on your relationship with the dealership they may take care of it for you at no extra charge.

It does not look like wear to me either. I bet you can have that fixed for less than $100 if you do some shopping.

I would bring this to the dealer. I never had a problem with leather like that before.

Is the leather install by toyota? Or the dealer?

That doesn't look like leather to me.

The straight very clean part of the "crack" to the right looks like a cut, remaining length looks like a tear resulting from the cut.

I don't think a ring would tear leather, but it would cut cheap plastic simulated leather and that is what it looks like to me.

I agree with the above posts, only the seat and back inserts are leather. The advertising brochure calls them "leather-trimmed" seats. That split/cut is in the vinyl part, a good upholstery shop should be able to fix it.

I don't think there is much chance getting it fixed under warranty but you could try.

    Agreed.

They are leather seating surfaces, like most cars in this price range.

    Warranty repair is unlikely.

It's not just this price range. The more expensive Lexus (RX350/450, etc.) are starting to get them. I was surprised how much more soft vinyl is on the 2010 RX vs. leather and hard-backed high quality vinyl on the previous RX.

But, yeah, I agree it's an user-inflicted damage.

So I had a sit in the car and the seats wrinkle in exactly the places it's cut. Here's a pic.

Also what about the tear at the very far back, that couldn't have been the ring also could it? I mean such a strange place, I just can't see me sticking my hand that far back.

If you don't think you did it perhaps you should take it to the dealer and show them what your photo shows. Don't mention the ring to them or they will jump on it as the cause and you will never change their minds.

yes take it to dealer ad let them know how you feel I would be pissed. You paid extra for something and it ends up being a worse product then the stock seats. Did this come from japan on the car or did the dealer install it?
