It looks like your Diesel has about 70 hp and Prius has 110 hp (Gen3 has 134hp). How is the acceleration? Is your Fabia manual?

You do know that Diesel has about 15% more energy than Gasoline. Based on your numbers, Prius is more efficient and provides more power with "automatic" (or the lack of) transmission.

Tim, saying simply that the Fabia 1.4L Diesel averages better, without putting it into context (e.g. HP, weight of the car, type of roads, acceleration times, CO2 emissions, etc.) - sorry, it's a bit too easy.
This is a site about a car, that is built around fuel consumption, with users checking the "last drop of fuel" consumed... :D. Therefore "generalist" statements like the one above, simply will not do, at least not for me.

Sure, there are plenty of other cars, especially diesels - sure, that on paper, and likely in real life, consume less than the Prius (and not necessarily the Smart cdi... ;) ). Your Fabia will surely consume less than your Prius, as you say: in absolute terms surely, I cannot deny this.

But I still have to see real life values of cars comparable in weight/power to the Prius that in *real life* city driving, and *real life* highway driving and anything in between are better or similar than the Prius.
Even my Polo 1.4L TDI (maybe it's the same engine of your Fabia?) of 2002, would on paper consume almost like the Prius, still it was 1 to 2L/100km worse in *real life* driving compared to my *real life* Prius driving experience so far. And this with more HP available, bigger/heavier car, more comfort, *way* more silent ride, etc...
On this topic about "reality" you might also want to read this.

More over (and most importantly): the forum is full of *varied* people, from all *over* the planet, but there are also a *lot* of nice people here, smart as well, that don't really accept statements like the one above. And not just because they think that "the Prius is better - duh". Most of the forum members here are, BTW, not necessarily of the tree-hugging type, quite the contrary - many are with their feet solidly on the floor.

The same people also don't accept rude behaviour, trolling and simple nonsense posts, that sometimes happens here. There is a lot of envy out there as well, I sure can tell you. And that drives the "trolling" we need to figure out here sometimes to discern fact from "stories".

I didn't read the thread about EMF and I don't know what replies you got. Likely you received rude replies, non-sense comments and gratuitous BS, instead of what you were looking for. But going at the same level is not the answer and feeds above mentioned people.

Among all PC members, there are a lot of *good* people, really. Very competent as well. Focus on those, and forget the rest, especially the "rude" ones.
Rude answers, don't even bother replying - the Forum self regulates itself and rude posters don't survive that long and get soon forgotten in the thousands of threads and posts of the nice members.
Plus: If they were *that* rude, you could also notify them to the Admin and Founder, Danny, or one of the moderators - they would surely have done something about it (e.g. blocked these users).

I hope you will post more, on other topics and about on your experience with the Prius. As well as hopefully find the information you are looking for, for example about EMF. :)

It is unfortunate that there is an much rudeness as there is on this forum, but the bottom-line is that rudeness starts with the OP. OPs who ask sincere questions and are polite themselves, are treated politely by the [generally] helpful people on PC. So look in a mirror, our Scottish ex-friend.

I'm actually surprised that anyone thinks there's excessive rudeness on this forum compared to others.

So how do you get on the internet? How much RF are you exposed to just using an average computer?

You obviously hate the Prius, took a made-up Internet scare (Reminds me of Wakefield and the MMR vaccine "link" to autism), and convinced yourself you are roasting your gonads simply sitting in your Prius

This also reminds me of a "news" article that has since been retracted by a British newspaper, of how the Prius is soley responsible for the "moonscape" around Sudbury Ontario, Canada

FYI Sudbury is home to INCO, now Vale Corp, a very large nickel mining and smelting operation. Nickel is not only used to make Prius batteries, but also to make high strength steel, chrome parts, etc

Some trolls have claimed their diesel powered one ton domestic truck was better for the environment. Their heavy truck actually has MORE nickel in it than a Prius, due to its weight and all that steel. Let's not forget chrome bumpers.

To suggest a "link" between the Prius adn "EMF" is suspect at best. More likely, a troll looking to stir up some shit.

Speaking of brains, just wondering what sort of emissions controls are on that Skoda? Any DPF or SCR? How about that Mercedes of yours?

Any clouds of black smoke? Of course, that heavy soot and loads of PM10 and PM2.5 you probably figure are healthier for you than a Prius

Oh, are you aware that diesel exhaust is a potent source of dioxin?

But you claim that WE are rude? Didn't take long for you to act like a complete dickhead

Here is an additional gem on the Skoda - 14.2s to 60mph/100kmph. Also did I mention that is the new one with the 1.6liter.

In order to be polite I will say that sounds a tad slow.

The Skodia Fabia is rated at 38 MPG (US) while the 2011 Prius is rated at 50 MPG despite the Prius being larger, having more trunk space, polluting much less (and probably being safer, I suspect).

Your driving technique and the routes you drive can affect this, but objective testing shows which car wins here, even ignoring the size difference (the Prius is a full 4 inches wider and 17 inches longer, PLUS it appears to have a smaller-sized engine/front end, meaning even more interior space).

If you stop calling everyone here an idiot and politely ask for driving tips, the members here will be able to give pointers and help you make the most of your Prius mileage.

Melissa, I'm not sure what's going on, but I can't see your pictures, I think you put one in another thread lately also.

I can't resist - the Skoda Fabia is 19" shorter (half a meter) and 4" narrower than the Gen III Prius. Not sure how that is classified as 'very similar'.
