Deleted after reading the EMF thread. Unless some rude posts got deleted, I think many helpful responses were posted. Many posts on this thread are an embarrassment though. I feel sorry for you if those kind of remarks are the true nature of Prius owners.

OK, some people here are quick to slap on the Troll label, but let's take a look at this one:

Joe Random pops in the forum, posts "U R ALL TEH SUX BECUZ (urban legend)!"
Members 1-17 post links refuting myth.
Joe Random says "U R ALL RUDE (rude word)s BECUZ U DISAGREE WITH ME!"

That's pretty much a textbook example of a troll.

Nope, it doesn't look like any posts (rude or not) from the OP's EMF thread were deleted. I think you can figure out what reply from the OP is leading many of us to believe that he's a troll.

And complaining about people calling a troll a troll makes you look good how?

And for the record, I think ScottishTim was actually asking a sincere question. There would be hundreds of better ways to stir up a forum than how his first post was written.

Ok, but he asked a topic that's been beaten to death. Many of us are moderately suspicious when low post count people bring up such topics, esp. when some of them seem to just throw a grenade and run. This isn't the first time for that...

The problem I have is response #12 at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...tic-radiation-prius-gen-ii-2.html#post1263468. Smells like a troll to me.
Anyway, I think we've done enough "feeding" and should let the two topics die.

OK, let's assume his question was sincere (a huge, probably incorrect assumption, but let's work with it). People gave him sincere answers. Lots of links, tons of good information. His response? "WHY DOESN'T ANYBODY ANSWER MY QUESTION!" In other words, why doesn't everybody say "OMG! You're RIGHT! The Prius will INSTANTLY KILL YOU if you get within 10 meters of one!" - all other responses were ignored.

    Classic troll behavior.

The definition of a Troll is someone who purposefully encourages hostile behavior on a forum. A Troll would never admit hurt feelings or suggest that people refrain from posting inflammatory comments. If he was a Troll, you fell for his ploy and fed his enjoyment. If he was a Troll he would be laughing hysterically at the immature responses. You can't hurt a Troll's feelings, you can only makes yourselves look foolish.

I do believe TIm's true intent was revealed when he boasted of this Skoda diesel and a Mercedes diesel. And what was this about a diesel 4x4 he runs?

The EU in general was very, very late to automotive emissions controls. It was still possible to purchase a non-emission gasoline engine car in the early 1990's. Diesel emissions controls came along much, much later

I used to frequently travel to the UK (London and Manchester, also Aberdeen in Scotland), Germany, France, and Switzerland as a consulting engineer, and was amazed at the difference in air quality of the major cities.

With the exception of American cities plagued by inversions (LA, Salt Lake City, Denver, etc), and muggy Canadian cities like Toronto and Windsor, the air quality in most North American locales is better than in most EU locales

THe OP poised a question about "EMF" risks in the Prius. Does the Prius produce "EMF?" SUre it does, so does a non-hybrid car like a Chevy Cobalt. If one Google's the topic, two very distinct themes emerge

One, the tinfoil hat crowd who believe in UFO's, conspiracies like "contrails" and flouride, mind control, and the end of the world

Two, the normal crowd who will objectively examine the issue and reach the conclusion that just rolling out of bed in the morning is risky. Let alone operating a motorized contraption on public roads filled with stoned drivers, drunk drivers, angry drivers, sleepy drivers, etc

A quick search would have uncovered all that. But if this individual feels happier and healthier operating a non-emission controlled diesel car, so be it

You're right, no car is perfect. However, find me a diesel, 5 seat, midsize car with an autobox, over 130hp, £0 road tax and a government rating of over 70mpg. i don't think there are any.

Diesel is about 4% more expensive than petrol so the difference is pretty minimal here. The prius also has better load space, leg space, power, and tax band. It's also not possible to upgrade the fabia to a PHEV as i have done with the prius.

Not only is 70mpg achievable by most people with normal driving but it is one of the few cars (due to it's HSD system) that you can beat the government/EPA ratings in and around town/city driving (with a few techniques)...not many cars that can do that!
