For those of you with your CA HOV stickers who drive the 91 Express Lanes, are you going through the 3+ lanes or not????????

I wouldn't think you'd be allowed to do so. My assumption is that the HOV sticker is for the carpool/HOV lanes, and the Fastrack transponder is for use in the Fastrack lanes. The 3+ lanes are there if you have 3 or more passengers in your vehicle, and I wouldn't think it legal for a single occupant in a Prius with HOV stickers to be allowed to travel in the 3+ lane whether or not you have a transponder.

You should be able to if it's a normal carpool-type lane.

From what I saw driving by it East past weekend to Riverside, you can't even GET to the 3+ lane without being in the Fastrak lane to begin with, so the answer is no.

In fact, the 91 Express Lanes are Fastrak ONLY so, again, no.

Great question, hope someone answers this. the 3+ is designed as an incentive lane for high occupancy vehicles. as it is the "carpool" lane of the fasttrack I would assume you could drive in those lanes. FYI, there is no benefit at all until after 7pm on some days. Went through it last Friday and the toll was over $7 OUCH! CHP running special patrol to catch people who jump the double yellow into the FastTrack!

From the 91 Express web site...
When can I use the 3+ Carpool Lane?
Effective May 19, 2003, when you travel on the Express Lanes with 3 or more people in your vehicle, you can use the 3+ Lane and you will travel toll-free, except when traveling Eastbound, Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. During that peak time, when traveling through the 3+ Carpool Lane you will receive a 50% discount on the posted toll. This policy also applies to individuals on a motorcycle.
If you have a Standard Plan, Convenience Plan, or Express Club account, on days when you have fewer than 3 occupants in your car, please stay in one of the lanes marked “Toll Lanes†as you travel through the toll zone.
As a reminder, California State Law requires motorists traveling on the 91 Express Lanes, whether traveling alone or with others, to have a Transponder properly mounted on their vehicle, and a valid FasTrak account. This law is enforced by the California Highway Patrol and can carry fines up to $500.So please be sure your account is always in good standing and your transponder is properly mounted in your vehicle. We want your commute to be fast, safe, and reliable each time to travel the 91.
