Sounds like a winner :p I think it is safe for me to start collecting stuff like these LED's. White car or red car...decision time.

Why didn't Toyota made full LED lighting ?

Now only the low beams are LED , why didn't they use LED's for turn signals ?

Good question. Maybe the 2012 or 2013 will have them from the factory. Eventually all manufacturers will use LED lamp assemblies as they can be very reliable. Regular light bulbs create heat and burn out. A LED operating within it's designed spec's, will outlive all of us ;)

    Cost would be my guess.

One step at a time. Toyota already replaced the brake lights with LEDs. I'd imaging the turn signals and reverse lights are next. sooner or later all lights will be LEDs.

This thread should be updated with alternative info for the Silver Vision bulbs.. it seems the WY21W bulbs are no longer being sold in Europe (and never were in the U.S.?)... Are the 582 bulbs valid replacements? Or are we just kind of stuck with fried eggs on our cars now.. And is there a place to get them cheaper than $50 or so to get all 4? Seems a lot of cash for 4 little bulbs.

I was wondering the same thing. I have been trying to find the WY21W silver vision bulbs, but the only ones I can find being made are PY21W.
Anyone with recommendations for silver coated replacements? I like the clear look with the amber flash.

Indeed... I couldn't get the eBay link to work earlier for some reason.

If you (or anyone else) is interested, there is a group buy for very similar lights (pictures installed on actual cars included):
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...aillamps-group-discount-list.html#post1255955
And having actually seen a Prius with these lights installed, they don't like "ricer" at all. I agree it might not be to everyone's taste, but the lights are not that dramatically different then the OEM taillights.

This thread is heavily weighted towards the front lights, but it started with some discussion of the rear turn signals also. Has anyone had any luck replacing the stock rear turn signal bulbs with LED bulbs? I tried a 7440 amber replacement LED, but it is too large to fit into the light housing. I wondered if anyone has met with success and what size LED would fit while still providing as much light as the stock bulb. The 7440 LED bulb does flash, however too fast (it will need a resistor), but the main problem is the size. I suppose it would be possible to Dremel the hole a little larger.

I'm following this thread kind of late in the game. This posting scared me (Post #253; melted headlight housing):

    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-rear-license-plate-bulbs-26.html#post1182280

I recently bought LEDs from SuperBrightLeds.com this one to be exact:
High Power SMD WLED-xHP5 (194 type) 360 degree Wedge Base bulbs Specifications

Are these safe to use? Currently have them in my license plate, but on the pink baggie that they come in, it says "Do not use in front headlight assembly; will void warranty". I don't care about a $5.00 LED bulb burning out prematurely, but I DO care about my headlight housings getting melted from lack of ventilation.

Who here has been running these for a long time? I think I'm going to play it safe and just use the cheap silverstars that I got, but I really did like the white LEDs I had in the parking lights.

Any insight would be great... thanks in advance!
