Prius Plus to get Lithium batteries

    BTW, the 3rd row usually end-up being child seats.

    Maybe it is sizism, but is there a legal reason too? What's to stop a very horizontally challenged person squeezing into the back seats, getting stuck and then suing Toyota? Or not being able to get out quickly in an accident?

    99% of owners would be sensible and use them for kids but it only takes that 1% with their vicious lawyer to ruin it for everyone else.

    I thought the second row was child seats. Is this different on the +, or different in Europe? On the C-Max which is the closest competitor to the prius v, the 3 row version is configured for child seats in the second row. Then again they are only planning on offering HV and PHEV on the 2 row version, and the 3 row version is physically longer.

    What is the battery warranty on the plus? Just to throw this out there, toyota may not have felt comfortable with a 10 year/150,000 warranty on the battery in CARB states. Either way Europe buys many more station wagons than the US, and the numbers might just not be there to try to sell the prius v and prius +.

    it is combination of all these things - too small 3rd row for american kids, too expensive lion batteries, too slow acceleration under 7 passengers, lost space in the center console bridge, smaller market for such vehicle, etc.

    i agree 100%, you hit the nail on the head. The V is just a Plus more suited to American tastes and the Plus is a V suited to European tastes. It's a pretty smart move from Toyota, although i hope Australia gets the Plus, not the V...

    I want the + and I love the Verso.... I only hope it will not be priced out of the market.

    It would be really hard to pick Prius+ over Avensis Wagon with top equipment and 2.2 D4D form... and thats pretty much where the pricing will go in Europe... it just way too high.

    Based on what I'm reading on this thread, it appears there is demand for the 7-seater Prius. I have an idea: perhaps Toyota should put one Prius+ in one hundred Toyota showrooms across the U.S. and see if anyone buys them. I'm guessing they will be snapped right up.

    All Toyota needs is a disclaimer on the seats that say "child seat, occupant not to exceed 100 pounds or X feet tall." We already have regulations that say you can't put a baby seat in the front passenger seat; there's no reason why we can't disallow adults from 3rd row "children seats."

    I know! Bringing on thread back from the dead... but does anyone know how the lithium ion battery pack is cooled in the Prius Plus?

    If it is anything like the US Gen 4 with lithium ion, it is air cooled.

    I'm just wondering where they put the fan and cooling ducts? I just don't know how that's all possible in the center console

    Isn't the Prius Plus what the US calls the Prius v? If so, the center console and rear seat are similar to the Liftback.

    Yes it is the what we call the "v" The European Plus has 7 seats and moved they Hybrid battery to the front. I was just wondering if anyone knew the technical aspects of the battery and cooling system. Very random, I know! Just wondering :)

    5 passenger models have a NiMH below the back hatch, 7 passenger models have a LiIon in the center console.

    (there is never an excuse for thread necromancy. Start a thread about what you wish to know.)

    Yes the Li-Ion battery is located between the front seats in the centre console. The centre console box becomes a tray (big enough for pens and a small notepad or a thin wallet). The "purse" or "bag" tray is much shallower (i.e. the floor is raised) so it comes just an open air storage area.

    The battery vent is located under the right side front seat.

    The battery is 34kg, 7 kg lighter than the NiMH version.

    That's all I've got.
