A phone # posted above for Troy, 413-774-6519, is actually his fax number.

His phone number is 413-772-0231. He's off Mondays.

Could someone help me out understanding the economics of prepaid maintenance please? I've searched this thread but it's so long now that it's hard to find specific info.

I"d pick: (because I think Prius requires maint. every 5000 mi; I don't have one yet) -

Every 5,000 miles/ 4 yr / 55,000 mi Reg $540 or Premium $995 (includes 3 major maintenances). Which is best?

I understand these are for the INSPECTIONS recommended by Toyota, excluding Dealer enhancements (which assume I should refuse), and that the warranty would pick up cost of covered items.

I don't know it these costs cover oil and other regularly replaced parts like filters (air, oil, gas) etc.

Does the prepaid price beat the cost of "paying as you go"? Anyone have an estimate of the pay as-you-go cost of these services?

I understand Troy may offer better prices on these contracts, but I don't know what these are?

I think I only asked 5 questions in this post!

    Thanks for any help.

It might be better to send that info in an email, as instructed in the original post, rather than putting it up online for all to see.
You might try to get a mod to delete your previous post, and this one as well.

    Hi All,
I was looking at the exclusions on the Toyota extended warranty.
It includes the: Hybrid System main relays, Hydbrid Vehicle battery and Hybrid vehicle battery module pack. O.K. I understand that there's a 7 yr. replacement for the battery, but would like to have a better understanding of what the main relays and module pack are. Is that a part of the car that has been a problem?
If so, how expensive to repair?

My sister in Virginia has a Prius (same color as mine!), and she just called to tell me that she had a fabulous transaction with Troy. She and her husband put a lot of miles on their car (almost 36,000 in 18 months), so she got the 6/100,000/0 warranty. She was thrilled to hear about the discounted price that Troy was making available through this site, and told me it was incredibly easy to handle everything by fax. Since she's considering selling this and getting a 2006 for the tax credit, she was REALLY happy to know that the warranty is transferrable--it'll be a good selling point if they decide to do that!

    Thanks, Troy and Danny!!!!!!!!

BTW Troy, I'll get my own warranty from you as soon as I get more of the car paid off!

I just bought a 7/100,000/0 extended warranty plan from Troy for $990. The turnaround was quick, and the warranty is the genuine deal, straight from Toyota Financial Services. I emailed one question to Troy, and got an answer in about thirty minutes. His price was about half what the dealer quoted me when I bought the car in late March. Thankfully I had already discovered Priuschat and knew about Toyota of Greenfield, so I just said no thanks to the dealer's offer without mentioning Troy.

I had originally purchased the warranty when I bought my car from the dealer for $1740 (he dropped it from his original price of $2400...he said he was giving me a deal...some deal) then read about Troy's online offer a few days later. I told the dealer I wanted a refund so they told me I needed to go back to the dealership and fill out paperwork to cancel the warranty I had purchased from them. I received my refund about 3 weeks later with no problem then purchased the warrantly through Troy. Around 2 weeks later I received the extended warranty from Toyota....Thank you Troy. He was a pleasure to work with!

Normally I do to recommend against them...but in this case I will be getting the max... since I"m dealing with cutting edge technology that even my good mechanic would be lost on... and its cheap enough... I'll be getting it you bet...
Can you imagine how much fun it would be getting the prius worked on without it providing something actually went bad?

    I just bought a new 05 Prius yesterday -

I searched high and low for my car and actually found mine on my local dealers lot - sufice to say I heard it all from all my other local dealers telling me that there weren't any for sale and that If I did find one on a lot I'd pay $3k -$5k over sticker for the privalage of owning one..... so I'd better put a deposit down and order one now and I'd get it in 4 -6 weeks..... etc etc etc

anyway I had to pay full msrp of $27,260 for my Silver Pkg 6 but

I also bought the Platinum warranty which was sold to
me for $2200 ! (yes I know I just read the posts on the real price of the warranty and I have been throughly shafted on the price)

    so now what.....

Can I still buy the same waranty from Priuschat web
site for $990 if I cancel my policy which I just
    bought from the dealer...?

Can I even cancel the warranty from the dealer without a penalty?

Are the msrp's for the varrious extended warranties listed anywhere in B&W ?

I need some evidence before I go into my dealer and tear him a new one.....

If I can indeed cancel the warranty (as it's only been 72 hrs since I signed my paperwork) will I have to wait for a check from Toyot a finance for the $2200 or do you think they will just redo the original finance paperwork minus the warranty?

I put $5000 down on the car on my credit card so I guess I have them over a barrel on that one as I can disput the charge and they wont get a penny of it untill the situation is sorted out to my satisfaction ...... time to go play hard ball.

    Let me know

I hate getting ripped off -

    sincerely

    Yes.

You should get a full refund within the first 30 days after buying it. If it has been longer than 30 days, the refund is prorated.

Those are published on the Toyota Financial Services site at:

New Vehicle Protection Plan Comparison: Pricing Comparison

Please do not use Troy's service in order to obtain leverage with your dealer. Simply cancel the plan you purchased and get a new one from Troy. Doing otherwise may end up spoiling it for everyone else.

Please contact Troy at [email protected] or (413) 772-0231. He'll advise you how to proceed.

Well I feel like a right plonker for agreeing to pay $2200 for something that even on the Toyota website should only cost $1650 -

Off to cancel the thing right now -

    cheers all -

Somehow I suspected that Frontier Toyota was the offender.

Well I'm back from cancelling my Extended Platinum service warranty -

Nasty business, which has sadly left a bad taste in my mouth - and that's not from chewing on the finance managers arse.... :p

long and short of it all ended up with me walking out .... and them refusing to even appologize.

Maybe I was expecting too much....

Now I don't trust the dealership at all - if they'll rip me off now how will the service dept treat me in the future ?

    I dread to think.

My refund of $2200 will be taken off my financed amount so I'll owe $2200 less....I'll be calling the cusomer service center on Monday to complain and also follow up the the service plan folks.

I'll also be writing to the owner of the dealership to complain.

Buying a car should be about developing a relationship with a customer - and building a level of trust between dealer and client - They have totally blown that.....

As well as the $990 Platinum deal I can get through this site I'm also gonna get the discounted pre paid maintance plan - which has a MSRP of $995 and I think I'll be able to get it for $650 ish

so both warranties will set me back arround $1640 -

This way I figure the dealer can't rip me off on servicing in the future as I'll simply present him with one of my prepaid service coupons.

Out of interest as I was leaving he offered me both plans (the platinum + the service plan)through his dealership for $2000 !!

My reply was simply 'stick it - I wouldn't buy from you even if the price was less than what I could get it from elsewhere - now it's a matter of principle and your dealing with a pissed off customer and there's no way to make it right or make me happy....'

Hopefully he'll have a visit from his boss as a result of all of this but I doubt it - the $10,000 Rolex on his wrist is probably why he's doing what he's doing and obviously doing it well.

Thank the lord for this site - Cheers guys / gals ! And happy motoring.

    James

First of all... they are salesman.. not your friends... they treat you friendly because they have to in order to make a sale. People are emotional creatures and must be treated with a reasonable amount of respect or they will walk out.. but you saw their true colors when treating you nice was no longer an incentive to put money in their pockets!... thats why they are all away from home... to make money....
If fact you caught thier bad side when they realized you were taking money back out of their pocket you had already put in!

Your right it should... folks would rather pay more to someone they trust than get it cheaper from someone they don't.. I do it to my good mechanic all the time.... Trust is worth alot of money... and its worth it to pay for it!!!!!!!
Most businesses these days deal in such volume in the big city.. they only take the mentality that they will "screw the customer and hopefully make him like it so he'll come back and if he doesn't then screw him anyway.. theres plenty more where they came from"!.... In a small town they can't function that way was much.

Its ok...... you just learned a valuable lesson without having to pay for it this time!!! B)

Just remember the world is about contracts! "If" anyone does anything nice for you.. its prob because it benifits them to do so!... Its a cruel world eh?
They are not your dad and no they don't care for you.. neither do they love you... In thier minds, its definately about them and not about you......

now that we have that straight!.... :D

They "will" abide by thier contract to service your automobile.. not because they will forgive you and decide they like you, but because they "have to"!

Often the ones that smile the most and make you feel the most warm and fuzzy are the most skillful sly foxes, so be friendly to everyone, but trust no one in the business world and you will do well!

    Cheers... you won!

    James,

I bought a Black Prius from Frontier Toyota on Nov. 10th, the day before you. I got the game of "We just happen to have one in stock for you". It was what I wanted, a black pkg. 6. It worked out me, I was expecting a couple weeks of waiting. Now I wonder if I should have waited for the '06, I did not want to wait 6 months though, if that is a real waiting time! I ended up paying $2000 for the ext. warranty. After finding this site I am thinking about canceling the warranty as well. Johnny was my finance guy.

It sounds like you had quite an experience canceling the EW. Any tips?

I live in Castaic, I will look out for the new Silver #6!

    David
