My first post here- looks like a great and informational forum.

We recently shipped a 2004 Prius from California to Hawaii (where we live). Of course, the DVD in the navigation system is version 4.2, which doesn't include Hawaii. I went to the local dealer to try and get a newer version that includes Hawaii and they said that the newer versions aren't compatible with the 2004 and 2005 Prius. I've searched online and it looks like certain things (like POI etc) might not be compatible, but the maps themselves might be. Can anyone verify this? What map DVD do I need to try and find that will have Hawaii maps? I don't care so much about POI's or the "I Agree" or greyed out buttons override functions. I just want to make sure that an upgrade will work in my Prius as far as the maps.

Thanks for any info on this!

    Aloha and Welcome,

Which dealership did you visit? I know up until a couple of years ago you could not get any Toyota with navigation here new from the dealer. I wonder if there is a newer version for the Gen. II after yours that has Hawaii? If there is newer disk version out there maybe a junk yard wreck might have one or check out a Prius at a used car lot. Even with the nav. it could be confusing to drive around here until you get used to the island. Just remember if you hit the ocean and you don't want to be there go the other way visa versa with the mountains. If I could be of any assistance don't hesitate to ask.

    Aloha Ed,

I went to Big Island Toyota in Kona. They didn't have the disc in stock so it had to be ordered from Oahu.

I've been on the island for several years so it's not as if I really need the GPS- I've just found that it comes in handy at times when I'm in an unfamiliar spot- like when I visit the East side of the island where I don't spend much time. So the maps would be nice. I find standalone GPS units to be too cumbersome to use (removing from dash etc), so I'd much prefer to take advantage of the nice screen in the Prius.

So if anyone has any info how I can get Hawaii maps in the 04 Prius version 4.2, I'd greatly appreciate it. Is there an aftermarket company that makes an upgrade? Will a later Toyota disc work? Mahalo for your help on this!

Obe other thing- I know the later versions include Hawaii- it's just a matter of whether it will work with my older nav system. Thanks!
