Today when I went to see the Prius v in Tustin, CA, I found a lot more than just the Prius v. They had the PHV Prius on display, and they also had a bunch of regular Prius lined up that anyone could drive. This was a very busy shopping center and the exhibit was packed. People who test drove received a $15 Whole Foods gift card (the store the Prius event was in front of). I think this was a huge success for Toyota, especially with several dozen SUVs lined up at the Costco gas station across the parking lot (people are fed up with the $$$ they just spent on gas and as they drive across the lot, Toyota is offering them a $15 gift card to test drive a 51mpg car. Brilliant!!!! :)

There were signs all over the exhibit (photos below) that said the Prius v is coming this summer, the PHV Prius is coming in early 2012 (we're in March 2011 right now!!!), and the Prius c is coming in early 2012 !!!

All of these signs had a website URL on them; Toyota Prius Family , and this website is the Prius Hub by Toyota, and it's Awesome! :)

Wow, good news. Especially when the gas is going up day by day. A very good timing of offering new members to the public. Since the charging time of Prius is much faster than any competetors,Prius will for sure gain lots of order. Yes the Prius C is wonderful. Young guys must order this model from now on.

    Toyota Happy Times.

What's the difference between "coming in 2012" and "available in 2012"?

Indeed. Range Anxiety (RA) and ReCharge Anxiety (RCA) are two separate things. Range Anxiety is often discussed but Recharge Anxiety isn't.

The fear of not recharging fast enough (Recharge Anxiety) compound into the Range Anxiety. Prius PHV recharges 3.3x faster than Volt and 6.6x faster than Leaf. Prius PHV goes the furthest for every kWh it takes in as well.

There is also Range Extender Anxiety (REA) - the fear of gas engine starting. Prius PHV uses it's 50 MPG gas engine as needed because it is very clean (eAT-PZEV) and eCVT blends two power sources working together as one.

Volt has 37 MPG gas engine that has emission level of non-hybrid (ULEV) that runs on the expensive premium gasoline. Range Extender Anxiety is greater for the Volt. Leaf owners won't have REA since it is a pure EV.

I saw a video interview of Jim Lentz where he hinted Prius c MPG of mid-50's. It is coming out in early 2012 to we won't have to wait much longer.

I think it is that new models are coming, while the PHEV option for a current model will become available. The current model is available as well.

Thanks for reporting this number of "mid-50s." I know they said the Prius c will have higher MPG than the GenIII Prius. I wasn't sure if it was going to be small like the original Honda Insight and get 60mpg, or whether it was still going to be heavy and only get mid-50s. Not that mid-50s is a bad thing. It's great. But if the Prius c ends up getting 60 mpg, I may switch from my decision to buy a Prius PHV over to buying a Prius c. I think "60mpg" is going to be the magic number that influences my decision.
