I have the choice between a 14000 mile, 6 month old 2010 Package 4 with nav and solar roof that is certified...or a new, 2011 package 3 with leather and nav.
Only $500 separates the two (the new one is the more expensive).
So, not getting into color or anything like that...which one, based on the communities knowledge of these two, is the better bet? And just how valuable is that 100,000 mile certified warranty?
Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts in advance!!

Is the certified one a rental?

Nope. The owner trades every six months and has a new one coming in on the 15th.

if it were me buying....I'd go with the 2011.

A year newer, so when time comes to sell your car, it should hold its value better, plus have lower mileage.

    Only my 2 cents.

And just to muddy the water even more, the dealer with the new 2011 has negotiated (dropped his price) so that it is now $300 LESS than the 2010 Certified car. So new Pack 3, Nav and leather, or 2010 Pack 4 with 13000 miles???

I have been researching the Toyota Certification program, and it looks like the main benefit of that is that it extends the limited power train warranty from 5 years to 7 years and from 60k miles to 100k miles.

    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks!!

Check out my thread here. I can help you even more with a $200 Loyalty Program Certificate that will bring the difference between the two to only $500! At $500 below the price of a used 2010, you really can't help but go new!

I was going to say get the new one. But now that it's $800 cheaper than before I don't really see a decision here to be made. It is a no-brainer.

All other things equal I'd go for new.

The solar roof seems a bit much for me in theory but in the heat of Atlanta it would be nice - do you you park out in the open or in someplace shaded like a garage - if I parked in the sun daily I might be swayed to go with the solar roof.

Either way you will be getting a terrific car - good luck.

You probably want to ask yourself 3 questions:

    1. How long are you planning to keep this car? If 7 or more years - then there will not be much difference in the resale value down the road.
    2. How important is the sunroof to you (just sunroof, not a solar one)? I greatly miss it on my Prius-- my previous car had one: in spring there is nothing better than opening it and driving in the sun to work. But I live in the north with long winters -- so sun is cherished here, not cursed. :)
    3. New Priuses in New England are sold with free 2-year maintenance, so you will get 5 complimentary oil changes if there is the same program where you live-- roughly saving you an additional $300.

Your choice is the matter of personal preferences, so nobody will be able to make a decision for you. You can also negotiate harder on the used car -- the dealership has a lot of room there.

If you plan on keeping the car for at least 5 years, I'd go with the 2010. I choose that route with Prius and I have no regrets. You'll make a decision that's right for you, so all that's left is to GERD!:D

I have one other member interested in the certificate as well, but if mine gets used there is another member in marietta who has one, he posted in my thread as well. When do you plan on purchasing? The certificate is only good through the end of March.

Yep, gotchya...saw that when I read the tread in more detail.
I am buying this coming Monday or Tuesday.

So, anyone in the Atlanta area with the loyalty certificate, I am in play.

One question, is the interest rate the same on both vehicles? In most cases, you get a better rate buying new.

Actually, it's 2 oil changes .... at 10K and 20K, at 5, 15, and 25K they rotate the tires and check the fluids.

Same, because the 2010 is a Toyota Certified vehicle, it qualifies for "new" rates.

I was told by a dealer in VA that the 2010 certified didn't qualify for the "new" rates, which is why I ended up buying new at another dealer.

Does the 2011 have after market leather (or do 2011 III's come with leather these days?) I do prefer leather wrapped steering wheels like the IV will have.
Does the 2010 come with 12 months free SOS?
You'll prob get a newer NAV verison in the 2011.

I'd lean towards the 2011 because it's NEW and you know it's not been abused.
