Where to get this rear end plastic part above the license plate?

I broke the part above the license plate where the Toyota logo is (don't ask). It's about 3" x 27" or so. The license plate lights and the backup cam are fine. Just the plastic piece needs to be replaced. I called the local Toyota dealer and they quoted $200+ dollars for the part and $130 labor to replace it. YIKES!

Is there anywhere I can buy this part for cheaper? Does it have a part number or some identifier? I have no idea what to search for.

Also, is there some sort of guide on how to replace it? I figure it can't be that hard, but a how-to would be nice.

    Help?

    Thanks,
    Ben

How did you break it, trying to remove it? So is the part off the car, in two pieces?

What I'm thinking: if it's a clean break, maybe try bonding it back together with 2-part-epoxy. Put a generous amount of the epoxy on the back side of the break, to reinforce it, and wipe the front surface down with isopropyl alchol to clear away any epoxy that beads out.

Then just ensure it's held together, with rubber bands or whatever, and set it in a warm undisturbed place for at least 24 hours. On top of hot water tank is good.

About a 1" x 3" piece of it broke off in a jagged manner (long story) and I couldn't locate the piece that came off, so it's not possible to glue it back together. I just have a really hard time believing that this trivial plastic piece costs $200+ dollars. I had the whole dang bumper replaced for less than $500! Surely there is somewhere / somehow I can obtain it for less than $100 and put it on myself?

What about going to a junkyard? I currently live in California (just north of SF in Sonoma county) so I don't know what the deal is with junkyards here. I haven't seen any, at least not like back home in Georgia. Any advice in this regard?

I found your part at parts.com. They seem to be the cheapest parts place I've found online and I've placed two orders with them and been happy. Unfortunately parts.com won't give you part numbers, but I can tell you how to find it...

Go to parts.com, then click on Toyota under Automotive Catalogs on the left. Select the year 2008, then click on Prius Parts. Click on Lift Gate, then Exterior Trim, then Lift Gate Trim. Finally click on W/smart key or W/o smart key, depending on whether your car has the smartkey system or not.

It looks like the parts.com price is $105.37 for the piece without smart key and $135.78 for the piece with smart key. Luckily it has seperate parts for each color, so you can just pick the color of your car and you won't have to worry about painting it or gettting it painted.

    hope this helps,
    Brett
