Hello everyone! Just wanted to post an intro! We just bought our first Prius last week...wish I would have found this place earlier but oh well...We got an '09 black Prius, pretty standard model with 44,000 miles. So far I am loving it! I traded my beast (04 Chevy Suburban) in for it. I paid $87 for a tank of gas and decided I had enough! We also have 3 children and I have figured out how to safely restrain them all in the back :) While we are sacrificing quite a bit moving to a smaller vehicle, I feel it will well worth it...I don't mind the change! I hope to learn a lot of cool things! My gas mileage question was already answered just by looking around.

Very cool move to trade-in the 'Burb for your Prius. Congrats and welcome to PriusChat. Enjoy the MPG savings, technology, low-emission and more.

    Aloha and Welcome to PC!

Good job on the used Prius may you have many happy years and trouble free miles in your future. Did you consider the Tahoe Hybrid at all? My wife thinks my Prius is ugly and she would rather have a Suburban if it was up to her. With just the two of us most of the time and nothing to tow we could not really justify the Suburban. You will like the $30 something dollar fill-ups and the long ranges possible on a tank of fuel. Enjoy!

Thank you! I think we were averaging a little over 13 MPG on the Sub!

I didn't even think about a Hybrid SUV...the tank is still huge so it's still expensive to fill up. And I think they only get about 21 MPG (still WAY better than the 13 I was getting) and they are a little out of our price range. I justified the Sub for a long time...three kids and 2 Great Danes and we like to camp and do outdoorsy stuff...but almost filling the tank with $90...yup not worth it anymore! Once my hubby pays his Camaro off we will be thinking about a truck for his outdoorsy stuff...but we shall suffer for a bit long to save some money!

Cool I have a Chevrolet Express hi-cube cargo van with a 6.0L, V8 that gets usually around 12.5 MPG's if I baby it. It has a 35 gallon tank if I fill it up shortly after the light comes on it takes around 30 gallons totals up to over $100's on average. So I know where your coming from but it is not a daily driver. I will only have to fill it up once a month or so. Don't consider the Prius as suffering you will like it more as time goes by. GM also makes full size pickup hybrids the Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra hybrids. There is a thread on here somewhere about a Toyota hybrid pickup but that is not a production vehicle just a concept.

Is the terrain pretty flat in Kansas? If so, you can expect some really good MPGs
