I don't know who suggested inserting a mouse pad between the upper floating bridge console and the lower support bridge, but it worked great. Just had to trim the black mouse pad in a U shape so it would disappear inside. Unbolt the console (5 bolts), move the console compartment back exposing 4 more bolts (2 on the sides, 2 under the cup holder) Loosen those. Using the 2 little arms on the U shape, just slide it between the bridge. Just bolt everything back together and do not over tighten. Pretty simple.

This is an EXAMPLE using FELT instead of the mouse pad which I used. I just preferred to trim the pad back so you couldn't see it at all when reassembled. Thanks to member MMichaell for the loan on his console picture.

This example (with felt) is actually my car/photo. But it did not work well - you really need to stick something that absorbs shock in the middle. I went with that weight-lifting padding that you find at gyms, that you put your weights on, sit on, etc. Like a mousepad it works great.

Michael, again, thanks for the picture and your input. Luckily I had an old mouse pad and everything went back together well. I can't believe the difference it has made to a much quieter car. Apparently the console had me tricked into believing there were more rattles, but just turned out to be the console. Funny thing about noise or rattles is they are so hard to find, especially while driving.

I don't know, this modification could have a serious impact on your fuel economy.

Thanks to this thread, the rattle in my 2010 Prius II is gone. I did not have a mousepad handy, so I used some kitchen shelf liner - the one that's like a sheet of foam rubber. I also did not do the entire U shape, just the strip at the top. It was a bit hard to figure out where to put the strip. There is an indented area that is deeper than the edges, and that seemed to be the best place for it. I put it back together and I can report that the rattle is gone. Too bad the photos in this thread are no longer available. That would have helped me.

People should not have to be putting items in areas of their new cars to stop them from rattling. I am disappointed in Toyota!

I sure wish I could see the pictures! I'm nearing a cross country drive and would love to do this mod. I'll look and see if i can find the bolts described. Yes bnaccs, we should not have to do this, but I will do it to fix the problem.

Dan, Priuschat has gone thru a couple of upgrades since these pictures were posted. It seems for each upgrade, more images are lost. It could be that if a previous member has dropped PC, all of his pictures go away too.

This site's admins/mods, who've been given permission, should be backing up images from DIY's - even putting PC watermarks on them to ensure they'll always be available.

Agreed, my thinking is if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I've kept all of my images so I can re-upload anything lost here due to the upgrade.

You just shove some material (I used the fuzzy half of a heavy duty velcro strip) in the gap between the cup holder and beginning of the fly bridge. It worked for me too....
