I had a V1 in my cars for ~10 years (and a Passport before that), but decided I didn't need it in my Prius. :D I sold it on eBay for almost as much as I paid for it. :cheer2:

Go to http://www.invisicord.com and get yourself an invisicord. It plugs into your Valentine 1 and into your Mirror wiring. Be sure to choose the micro version so the probes fit the mirror wiring/jack. It will be the best $15.25 you spent

Sorry, mine is not hardwired. It is suction cupped to the windshield and i run the cord through the A-pillar molding, under the glove box, and into the power port under the center console. It's a pretty clean install, powers up and down with the car, and very simple.

just did this last weekend. i used an "add a fuse" thing and plugged it into #1 on the fuse block under the dash. #1 is Cig which is switched on by the power button. had to use 15 amp fuses but no worries. i also grounded the unit to the exposed nut on the firewall just behind the E brake.

i mounted the V1 behind the rearview mirror and everything is working fine. i have no worries about missing rear laser shots from cops. if i passed them then they should shoot me in the rear......

humm.. I got the base prius which doesn't have any electrical components in the mirror. so invisicord would not be an option. Would I be able to hook it up into somewhere in the dome light area?

i hooked it up the same way the homelink mirror is installed. check out the attached pdf, and it will show you how to wire it using the acc on wire for the dimmer, same as toyota would for the homelink mirror

how did you mount the V1 behind the mirror? do you mean off to the side and not where the black dots are? I found that in the Prius and in our Acura which both have the black dots behind and around the mirror (what DOES that do anyways??) - that we are unable to mount anything there short of very strong double sided tape.

i had some leftover clear bra material and used it over the back dots. im sure you could even use leftover screen protector material or something similar as long as it can be smoothed out

    attached a pic of mine

    dopey423,

Are the red wire switched on and the white/black wire ground?

yes i grounded the black wire to a nearby screw and then tapped the red wire from the v1 to the grey wire for the acc power source. the v1 turns onright when the power button to the vehicle is pushed. hope that helps!

dopey423, thank for the quick reply. Sorry, but let me clarify. I would like to know about the 20 pin connector* going into the map light, that the homelink mirror connected to on the pdf. If the red cable on the diagram is a 12v and the white/black cable are for the ground. I have a Passport 9500ix and a invisicord and what to use those cable to juice up the radar.

The pdf show the homelink mirror wasn't installed factory, but from the dealer using a t connector, I like do the same for the radar and tap into the same cable.

Similar to my former Fx35 I trade for the prius, but just tapping in the two cable listed above.

Basically I like to know what these cable do before I stick anything in it without electrifying myself and the car. I think this would be a good power source to hang Gps, radar, Scantool, etc

*20 pin connector is in a 2011 Prius without sunroof.

I have a Cobra unit I hardwired to the car. Here is a pic of the unit.

Here is a pic I put together that shows were I tapped into. I tucked the wires inside the liner.

Have it hard wired, mounted upper left side of windshield, and remote display sitting on top of scanguage ontop of steering colume. Nice and discreet.

    Valentine One Radar Detector Mount

I mounted mine under the mirror with the Blendmount. Took me a while to get it installed onto the mirror, but finally got it! (not my thing! lol) Nice, custom, built-in look, I think. My stereo dude hardwired mine into the fuse box and then ran the wire through the rearview mirror arm, under the headliner, down the side pillar, and then to the fuse box...

Here is my solution. I found that I could mount the Valentine unit by using the visor mount by pushing the mount hook above the headliner. I had to block open the visor mount with some stuff to keep it wide open, and it met some kind of obstruction a short way in, but I got beyond that. It now sits high, but below the strange windshield dots, in what I think is an ideal location, on the driver side of the mirror.

The downside is that the driver visor cannot go beyond vertical, but it works just fine angled at me instead of away from me.

How to power it? Apparently, everything in the overhead console, definitely the Homelink mirror, is on all the time, and I wanted a switched install.

I went to the local Audio Express store, and they knew just what I needed. I explained that I needed a switched install, and suggested going along the headliner, down the driver A pillar to the mess of wires behind the panel next to the parking brake. The tech said no, there are unknown fuses involved, and recommended wiring down the A pillar to the On button behind the dash.

Who am I to blow against the wind? They know more than I do about this.

Result: Perfect. Took 20 minutes from start of work. Cost me $45+tax. The V1 is mounted high (as recommended), virtually invisible from outside, easy to reach, and easily removed from the car if theft is an issue.

I still want two power plugs under the rear deck, one for trickle-charging an LED lantern, and the other for ??? a mini-fridge for road trips ??? This experience leads me to believe that these are the guys to do this work.
