I always make sure they either dont put the advertising on or remove it if it is on there already. Just to make them feel better i tell them put on the plate frame, but no stickers or anything like that. Then when i get home i just take the plate frame off and replace it with my own...

I can't take the stickers on the back of the car. I could deal with a license plate thing. Once my dealer tells me that my car will be in after 10 more days, I'll tell him that's part of the deal. No stickers on the car.

My dealer doesn't use stickers. They have a chrome script letter plaque.

I wonder if they use double stick tape? I doubt if they actually drill into the car to affix it. I will ask them at the time I tell them that I don't want it for my new '06 this January.

Don't think we all that far from having our cars arriving looking like a NASCAR car with all the products used plastered all over the place. "Goodyear Integrity Tires" for example -- ewwwww.

When I purchased my Prius, I forgot to ask for a "no dealer-applied decals or plates" and sure enough, there was a vinyl decal on the back when I picked it up.

I asked them to remove it when I came back a couple weeks later to pick up some accessories, and their detailing shop took it off in about 15 minutes without any ill-effects.

From now on, I'll definately write it into the sales contract though - it's the only way to be sure.

I don't buy that as a valid reason. How long would it take for them to try a lookup? 5 seconds tops? Enter in the license plate number, if nothing comes up, enter the details in.

Hate em, don't let em put them on or take them off as soon as I get home. Don't even like the licence plate frames and they're usually gone in a week or two.

Need to know for a look-up. Must be some pretty dense service writers. All they have to do is hit "look up" and unless you have a common name like Smith, usually the first 3 letters of your name is enough to bring up your file. How hard is it to hit "look up" and type Neu........

I also hate these dealer stickers etc on a brand new car that I just paid them for. Actually a lot of dealers put these on even before they put the vehicles on the lot for sale.

I have them write it on the contract not to put any dealer advertising on my car. Even with this, I have gone to pick up the car and they were on there. First thing I do is to take them off when I get home.

my dealer doesnt do those metal emblems or stickers. just license plate frames and they asked if it was ok. i said sure.... didnt matter anyway, the front ones have most of the lettering has been wiped out from simple road grime wear and tear and is now nearly unreadable.

This is pretty rare around here, and I suspect in most areas, because dealers frequently trade cars with other dealers to satisfy a customer request. They wait to add the decal until they make an actual sale, as part of the prep process.

First thing you should have done is stand there and make them take it off. If I won't advertise for free, I certainly am not about to do detailing for free.

You never see this in California. The dealers have their ads on the license plate frames, but they don't add the additional logos I've seen in other states.

I pull off the license plate frames as soon as I get home.

Well, aren't we an agreeable lot. I don't 'wear' advertising on anything and would not without a percentage of the corporate gross income as my fee. I also never buy because of advertising of any kind except word-of-mouth recommendations. Heck, I bought my '04 Prius in '03 when there was little to no advertising or, for that matter, any way to test-drive the car. The only dealer advertising that came with my Prius was the license plate frame which I reversed as soon as I got home. I also don't wear my political affiliations on my bumper. If someone wants to know how I think they must talk to me (and I am FULL of opinions!).

    So Cal here.

I don't see the logos and stickers here, only license plate frames. Some people keep them, some don't.

I eventually replaced mine (shiney silver plastic to imitate chrome) with real chrome. The back one says "Hybrid" and I bought a Toyota "Prius" one for the front. I returned both to the dealer telling them they could recycle. The girl said they usually just use new ones. Hmmm. That's not very environmentally friendly.

But it's not like I'm not advertising. Along with the Prius license plate frame I also have Prius decals on the side from Priuschat. And I have a few Prius T-shirts I wear as well. I just don't advertaise for the dealership on my car.

However, when anyone asks me about the car I be sure to tell them to go to my interenet manager at the dealership. He was great and I don't mind directing business his way. I think people who do their job well should be rewarded. If we're going to warn people away from the bad we should also praise and direct toward the good.

Yeah...not common in CA either. I only see dealer's license plate frames around here (very easily removable/replaceable). I'd be pissed if a dealer put a badge or decal advertising themselves on my car.

Where do you get Prius T-shirts? What color(s)? What's on the front/back?

Past experiences have shown that I am going to be much more careful about getting the sticker off then they would be. It is worth it to me to do it myself purely for this. This is not to say that I do not let the salesperson know that they dropped the ball. (like they actually care)

I hate those dealer advertisments they stick on cars, I allowed my last dealer to put their lic plate frame on but it is very tastefull so I didnt mind and they are a good dealer. It seems around here the more craptacular the dealership is the greater the size of their emblem. I am going to make sure the most I see on my new Prius is a frame for my plates if even that.

One more to say they hate the advertising. I removed my license plate holder within an hour of coming home.

Although this thread did make me realize something. I'm a photographer and many of my products have my logo in the corner. I justify this because so many people will try to scan their pictures at a store for copies and the logo tells the store it has a professional copyright on it. Have to admit, part of it is done for advertsing reasons though.

Can we scan a Prius and make copies? I wish.

Most places in Northern California don't put those badges on either. In some states they put badges on the car and also the county you live in.. What an easy way to single out which county has bad drivers.. d=-)

    <grin>

To much info about me for a stranger.

A long time ago I was a great fan of Road & Track Magazine and for some reason I remember a letter from a guy who had purchased a fairly expensive sports car, maybe an Alfa or E Jaguar, and it had a dealer logo bolted to the trunk lid. He took them to court and won his case. The dealer had to pay for a body shop to remove the logo, refill the holes, and repaint the trunk lid.

I guess the reason I remember it is because I dislike that sort of advertising so much. Thankfully my Prius did not have anything like that on it, just the throw away lisence plate frames, which I did.

So far I have left mine on, and a good thing too, we now have so many Silver Prii in my parking lot I use the Helena Motors tag to recognize my car. We now have gone well over 10 Prii in the lot we have every color with repeats on white and silver. Prii are replacing SUV's in the Doc's parking lot. Now all I need to do is have they put in sockets so we can plug in our block heaters.
