Anyone with experience with both of these tires?

They seem very similar, except that the MXV4 should last longer and it actually costs less. I've seem claims that both tires exceed the gas mileage of the stock tires.

Any reason not to chose the MXV4?

EnergySaver is rated very high. Most that have them give them a 10? Hal

    Thanks, Hal.

But people seem to rate the MXV4 very highly, too, and that's why I am debating between the two.

I also drive up and down a hill every day, which is hard on tires, so that's why I am tempted by the greater longevity of the MXV4. I am wondering what the drawback of it would be, compared to the EnergySaver?

Are the MXV4 LRR tires? If they are then no problem. Hal

It says the MXV4 is Green X, just like the EnergySaver A/S.

The MXV4 is rated 10 for fuel efficiency also like the EnergySaver A/S, although they say specifically that the EnergySaver A/S is their "most fuel-efficient" tire.

    See the specs here: http://www.michelinman.com/tire-selector/name/primacy-mxv4-tires

Our Michelins are GREAT . . . w/ nearly 90,000 miles on 'em ... VERY little wear. It's whacky! Great rolling resistance numbers too. Folks on PC suggested we buy them, and we've never regretted it. Simply amazing. But they're hydroedge's ... so take that for what it's worth ... if you're really sold on one of the other 2 models you're looking at.

Hill, do you not find the Hydro Edge a bit noisy? I had them on my CR-V. I have to agree they wear well. Hal

Has anyone else had experience with the Hydroedge tires.

i have the energysaver a/s tires on my 05 right now and am very pleased with them...although i do think that the nokian WRG2 tires i had before were a tad grippier and slightly better in slush while returning similar mileage.

    still, i'm pleased.

as for hydroedge, my mother-in-law has a set of the new redesigned ones and likes them very much. excellent traction and apparently less RR than the previous hydroedge model

The only downside is expense. I had the MXV4s on our Prius (the old Plus model that was replaced with the Primacy MXV4 which is a better tire, I had those on my old Lexus and will put them on the new one when the stock tires wear out). They're great tires...but I replaced them with Yokohama Avid Touring S tires, which were like half the cost and LOVE them. Just as smooth and quiet as the Michelins, wear really well, no effect on MPG...and like I mentioned a lot cheaper.

Personally I think spending $600 on tires for a little car like the Prius is a waste...

We have Hydroedges. I love them! :)

I think we have something like 70K on them now... Driven through torrential rains (that's pretty frequent around here), snow, some icy conditions - and they've performed wonderfully. Tread wear is pretty minimal, still. I did have one nail this year, but got that fixed. Rotate every 10K.

I also run at 40/38 PSI, generally.

A little tire noise doesn't bother me much. I haven't really been bothered by them.

It was better than the screaming that kept happening when the Integrities were on the car. Sheeesh... a little hydroplaning, and you'd think we were going to die... ;)

I just put Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my car last month. I really wanted the Energy Savers, but they dont make thm in 17s. In all my research, I could not find anyone who did not like the Energy Saver. But then again, they are very new.

I don't think you can go wrong as long as long as "Michelin" is on whatever tire you buy.

I have the MXV4 Primacy. The only issue is the MXV4 is not available in the correct size. I went up in size, and had no problem. Mileage seems unchanged. Traction is improved, as is handling.

IMHO "Michelin" is kind of like "Sony". You know the product is going to look good, work well, and last a reasonable amount of time. BUT, you pay dearly for that knowledge.

Lots of other great tires that don't say "Michelin" on them too...some of which you could buy two whole sets of for what one set of Michelins cost. Just gotta do a little research first.

On what? Tires that work nearly as well or better and are less expensive?

    Goodyear Fuel Max $80/ea
Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 or EP422 $73/ea and $78/eaContinental ProContact with EcoPlus Technology $74/ea

Tires : Test Results : The Tire Rack

Additionally, Bridgestone and Michelin regularly provide $70 rebates on the purchase of 4 tires at Costco and TireRack.com and possibly other retailers.

I replaced Integrities on my 07 after 19K. Now have about 28K on a set of Hydroedge (185/65-15) and need to replace. Definitely going to 195/65, but still researching best tire. Concrete roads/high heat in N. Texas must take a toll. Too many others getting much better wear from tires.

I got the Pimacy MXV4 and so far the ride seems a little more cushiony and quieter.

I got them in the standard Prius size P185/65R15 (even though the Michelin site doesn't show them coming in this size) from American Tire Depot, for about $550 for four (after the $70 Michelin rebate, but including the extended warranty at $11+ per tire).

Can't really tell if there is a difference in mileage.

    Pretty happy overall.
