For all of you naysayers who said it would and could never happen:

Today the Bush administration announced an aggressive plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. You can read more about it here.

Those of you who thought the current administration was incapable of creating a sound energy policy: Pfftttttttttttt! Shows how much you know.

I don't think with the present policy we will meet the 4920 deadline.

You did not waste your time. now you can tell poeple that you read an article in a popular newspaper about the energy plans of the Bush administration. See? It's a perpetual humor machine.

ARE YOU KIDDING??!! What? Did he just pick a number out of a hat and decide that would be the year? In the scheme of things, if we're going to wait until 4920, how much of a difference will 600 years make? He just set a date far off enough, so that the current administration wouldn't have stop THEIR dependence on foreign oil!

Hey rachelbe - relax....sip some tequila and realize that the source of this "news" story is the Onion - a great satirical journal. Most of their spoofs have been truly funny - in a way it's sad, 'cause this government of ours provides so much raw material....

Very funny. At least we don't have Kerry's policy of all terrorists allowed in the US with free weapons as a peace initiative...

Hopefully we'll have some better candidates at the next election but we definitely ended up with the lesser of two evils with the last one.

Agreed. Although I'm an American so I'd say it's comments like those that get me frustrated at HALF of the Americans.

The Onion is great. Though this wouldn't be the first time it's caused needless ire. In a Readers Digest letter to the editor someone used the Onion as a reliable source to substantiate Harry Potter author J.K Rowling's links to satanism. The response from the editor was pretty funny. "The Onion is... uh... a farce" or something to that effect. It's sad though how the current adminstration's ability to spew nonsence makes it hard to tell if the Onion is making something up or actually reporting valid news. And I used to be more republican than not. Now I'm just a disenfranchised social liberian/fiscal conservative (what republican should be). Where have all the centrists gone?!?

Traanya Drinker, your signature says it all. I might be a tree hugger but I'm no tax and spend democrat. Like I said in my last post I don't really have a party at the moment. Both left and right are just wrong on too many core issues. Groan. Though, to be honest if it's a choice between Sweden (socialist utopia, Ack!) or Iran (fasicst theocracy, bloody hell!), I think I'll take Sweden. It may cost $50 for a pint of bitter but at least we'll finally have a kick nice person bikini team. That is if everything I've heard about Sweden is true. :D

It's true! I spent a couple weeks there in 2003 and 12 days there in on business 2004. I loved it--and will go back again! Stockholm is spectacular. There's an Absolute Ice Bar there and a club called Patricia's (an old ship) that I highly recommend. Many bikini team recruits were seen there!

Cocoatreat, I can't recall having read such condensed ignorance as your post above.

The genius of The Onion is that even with made-up "facts" it hits closer to the underlying truth than the "legitimate" media. A reader of The Onion will understand W. far better than a viewer of television news.

But, while the interpretation may be streched, she didn't really state any untruths...it's just how you want to believe things.
