Matthew at Toyota of Seattle told me to estimate 10% to the price of the car to cover sales tax (9.1%), registration, etc.

That said, I called both Burien Toyota and Toyota of Seattle this weekend and neither had any hard data on prices, production times, or regional allocations of the different packages.

According to nottagasguzzler, Lake City Toyota is awaiting their first arrivals of 2006s in November and they have given her firm prices.

I'm supposedly on the waitlist at Toyota of Seattle (they don't order for you, just try to match your choice with what arrives when your number comes up. Of course, they haven't told me my number) and have supposedly "ordered" a car through Burien Toyota (complete with a 1,000 buck deposit) over the phone and without having any firm details on pricing or packages available. Both know I don't want the car until after January 1st. I'd still like some hard data!!

    I'm wanting a red, 2006, package 3 or 4.

Burien and Toyota of Seattle should both have at least the new base price starting tomorrow, as it was announced to the world Fri. afternoon from Toyota of NA HQ in Torrance.

However, the package price info we have on PC was reported to us (also Fri.) by a "rookie" member who says he/she got it from...a dealer in Seattle! Most of us accept that data on faith, but there might be a small surprise somewhere.

You do know that, for '06, Salsa red is out, replaced by Barcelona red, right?

p.s. I hope everyone realizes that some packages are not the same anymore, which is why they are price more (or less) than before...

Yup. I know about the color change and I'm not sure I like the new red (if it's the one someone posted on another thread from the Japanese website), but I haven't seen it anywhere but online yet.

Don't know what to think about these dealers. I'm thinking of recalling a bunch of them just to poll them for knowledge.

We'll see, but as phrased in the press release, it sounds like you can enter any address by voice. That would be very, very nice.

    From pressroom.toyota.com

"The base MSRP for the 2006 Prius will be $21,725, an increase of $450, or 2.1 percent. The price will take effect when the 2006 Prius goes on sale in mid-November."

None of us know when the car will actually be shipped to dealers.

Got this in e-mail from Capitol Toyota last week.

2006 Toyota Prius Package HF #3 MSRP $23,926.00
2006 Toyota Prius Package HK #6 MSRP $26,281.00
2006 Toyota Prius Package NL #7 MSRP $28,181.00
2006 Toyota Prius Package NW #8 MSRP $29,341.00

"*All prices exclude government fees and taxes, any finance charges, any dealer document preparation charge, and any emission testing charge. Prices do not reflect any manufacturer price increase."

Everything's higher than the calculated prices in this thread. Wonder why. I also wonder about this "Prices do not reflect any manufacturer price increase" stuff.

"The complimentary roadside assistance program has been discontinued
    for the 2006 Prius."

This is, if you'll pardon the saying, a load of crap. What do I do now
if the darn thing stalls? Every new car we've purchased since '95 has
come with roadside assistance for the warranty period. Toyota is
dropping it? I'm about THIS close to saying F- it and getting my money
back on the 2006 I ordered and getting a HCH. The camel's back is
    breaking here.

I paid $25900 for a loaded 2004. It's been recalled several times and
in the shop for 35 days since 11-18-03. Far more than any car I've
owned. Base price was $19995, BC package $5245. The price is up $1730
and now BC costs $485 more, too. The same car with a few tweaks
(backup camera, MP3 player jack) but no cassette player and no
roadside assistance will sticker for about $28200, an increase of over
$2200. That's HUGE in automotive terms. I can't think of any other
vehicle that's gone up that much, that fast, for essentially the same
    car.

Yeah, we've all heard it was underpriced, Toyota was losing money on
it, etc. etc. so spare me that line again.

But seriously, no roadside assistance? That's just cheap. I love this car, but the love is getting a little thin, especially with ANOTHER recall notice arriving in the mail yesterday.

    (end of rant)

Not to belittle your overall point. Does the HCH have roadside assistance? -- If so, I can't seem to find it on Honda's website. I know the Civic I have didn't have it.

For the $4000 I'd be saving, I think I could splurge for AAA
