Is there a Scangauge or an alternative with a bigger screen?

You can also chain a couple ScanGauges together. But a more user-friendly screen like some of the larger devices offer would be nice.

the ScanGuage and costs about 1/3 as much, $60...

However, it does not have the capacity for hybrid/Prius specific
readouts like the ScanGauge's XGauges.

Summary: Better displays -- maybe SG will now finally move beyond
it's Atari-era display at last -- but it does not have the ability to
identify and display hybrid specific data.

Bummer.

IIRC, the DashDaq has roughly the same problem: great multi-color,
programmable display, but cannot display hybrid specific data... $400.

Drat!

 

I use the Canview V4, it uses a big screen. You can also get the Canview V3 to use with your existing MFD screen. It is pricy but you get what you pay for. It makes the ScangaugeII look like crap.

 

CAN-View is no longer sold for Prius that do not have the PHEV conversion.

 

There is hope for a low cost functional alternative. pEEf (do a search on PC) is designing a new OBD2 unit for his Gen2 Prius. His plan is to do firmware for the Gen3 soon after he finishes the design.

Take a look at Torque on an Android phone or pad with a bluetooth OBD2 adapter.

You can daisy chain several ScangaugeII display units together
with RJ45 Cat5E network (patch panel) cables. Each ScangaugeII
has two RJ45 sockets one in the rear and one on the right side.
This means you can add in increments of 4 gauges. The real
advantage to staying with the ScangaugeII is its support
for the Prius' special hybrid system via its Xgauges. Pricey at
$160 per 4 gauge but maybe you could get a group discount?

There are OBDII/CAN scanners that connect to a computer
via USB port which in theory you might customize to display
the info you wanted onto a bigger display. These devices are
inexpensive - but the programming to make it work would
probably be intense gearhead stuff. Some states
have restrictions as to what kind of displays you can
have on the driver's dashboard. While the Scangauge II
is very small - a larger display might attract some attention.
While most laws like the one in MD permit displays used
to assist in driving - that doesn't mean a state trooper might
not pull you - just to check it out....
