Electronic Switch Shifter with Backlight installed! Pics!

    Courtesy of Jim aka JACoH - I finally got mine installed. I must say, it is SEXY! It has the blue backlight indiglo at night too. No more clutter in my center console.....and now my Prius feels more hi-tech! :rockon:

    First of all, I think its a cool idea, but not something I would actually buy in to. But, why is Drive all the way to the right and engine braking closest to the driver? If a mod duplicates the shifter lever pattern (which I already think is backwards), why couldn't one set it up more logically for the driver's ergonomics?

    This shifter was purchased in Japan so it is based on RHD car. Thats why the D is on the right, closest to the driver. I bought it from JACoH, a priuschat member, he bought 2 of them, kept one for himself and sold the other one to me. If you're interested, maybe you can ask him to give you the site he purchased it from. Shipping was fast though, even from Japan.

    As for price....hehe.....well, I'm a little embarassed that I paid this much for it.....but I like it....much more than the normal shifter, even though it was very pricey. It was about $200.

    The design sort of suggests that the buttons might be able to be swapped out for left hand drive cars. Is that possible?

    I have a pushbutton transmission on my '62 Dodge. Funny how things come back around!

    Looks very cool, however!

    I wasn't too sure about the push-button shifter when I first saw the pics, but after seeing it installed? I have to say, good job! :thumb:

    Personally I don't think I'd make the switch. There is something very satisfying about being able to throw the lever from D to B when on a hill and feeling the engine shift down and brake. Sure, I know the button would do the same, but maybe I'm just pining over the good ole manual shift days :D

    That really does look hi-tech! If someone developed a LHD model and priced it right (under $100), I would probably take the plunge!

    I'm driving the Prius for a week now and about three times I touched the shifter when I accessed the navi headunit. I have ordered the OGS switch that has customizable colors for the push buttons. I will take it apart before i gonna install it to see if the buttons are interchangeable. I believe not as there seems to be one el. circuit underneath. Will post pics when the stuff is here (3 weeks depending on how long the body kit needs to be made)

    Looks like $178 plus shipping plus a forwarding service cost since the company does not ship directly to the US. With a little more installation information, I might go for one. Hopefully the supplied connector mates with the existing one and console cover and OEM lever shifter are not difficult to remove. Commentary by those who have done so would be appreciated.

    That is actually a really slick-looking mod! Very clean!

    Heck, even modern Ferraris don't have a shifter anymore. It's a button for reverse and paddles for everything else.

    Personally? I like it. The rather impotent looking phalic knob Toyota offers as a "shifter" has always just looked wrong to me...

    I think this is an improvement.
