Gen III base model. I think i read somewhere from the manual saying that the dome light suppose to shut off automatically after 20 minutes. But not in my case. My kids always left the dome light on and I checked one hour later it was still on. Or must be swtich off manually?

I would say that if your kids 'always' left the dome light on, and you check an hour later, and it's still on, then it does not shut off automatically.

When the 12v battery goes dead the dome light will turn off.
The headlights will go off after a certen ammount of time before the battery goes dead.

I've heard rumours certain lights may go off, after some amount of time, but there seems to be a lot of exceptions, confusion. I don't trust any of it: leave our dome light, and hatch light, permanently off. Might see if I can disconnect the leads to the door "courtesy" lights as well.

I knew other light (Overhead light, head light go off after certain seconds) But the dome light is not. Many cases the kids left dome light on and my wife did not notice that. I went home couple hours later and it is still ON.

I think all the lights inside, the front reading lights, the dome light, and the little cargo area light will stay on if left on.

I have been thinking about removing the cargo area one, i'm afriad it might get bumped and run my battery down.

i really wish Toyota would do what GM has done for the last 12 years, have battey rundown protection so the car is smart enough to shut any light off that is left on.

The auto-off only applies if the lights are on due to the door being ajar. If you turn the lights on manually, you have to turn them off manually. (Section 3-4, page 366 of the manual has this info, though written in very poorly-translated English.)

I don't think the hatch light will turn off after 20 minutes.

I don't think any of the lights inside the cabin will turn off if you turn them on.

First person that knew what they were talking about, probably because they read the manual. The same is true for the Gen 2, I've tried it several times. And, no, the trunk light and reading lights will not turn off. I mitigated all of the lights problems some by installing LEDs.

The hatch light is 2 position, DOOR & OFF.
If you turn on the reading lights manually they will stay on until you turn them off. If they worked differently well I can hear it now. Stupid Toyota, I'm trying to read something why do my READING lights keep turning off.

"all of the light problems" come on...

I was frightfully in the dark on this topic until now, but this most illuminating response popped on a light in my head! :D I hope I can get it to go off, though, it's almost bedtime.

Wait, if I can't get it off will I die overnight?!?

Lock the car doors, from the outside, using the FOB.

The interior lights should begin to dim immediately.

If not, you left the inside lights on........
