Boi you be trippin. In the right color and with the right mods, a Prius can look better than a WRX or 95% of the cars out there for that matter.

    Sorry about your uncle.

The Argonne National Lab near Chicago (?) did a study using a GREET model showing the lifetime energy usage in manufacturing and fuel use of a Hummer would be almost 6 times that of a Prius (1800 million BTU vs. 340 mm BTU's for Prius).

    http://www.transportation.anl.gov/software/GREET/

The article 'Prius is more environmentally damaging than Hummer' was written by a college student at Central Connecticut State U. by Chris Demorro and cited a freakin' CNW Marketing firm for data. Wow.

Who to believe the Argonne Natl. Lab, look it up, or some college dude citing a marketing firm? Chris Demorro might pass out under the barrage of engineering and scientific data from Argonne concerning Prius/hybrids and more.

The Sudbury Ontario mining and smelting plant operated by Imco Limited and another, which has been procuding ores since early 1900's had environmental damage before 1979, but has since been cleaned up with technology and reforestation. Prius battery Nickel has nothing to do with those former problems.

Don't discount the loads of regular folk who outwardly "hate" it for no other reason than that it wasn't the car they chose to buy. On some level they like the idea of great gas mileage, environmental friendliness, but didn't choose it usually out of some fear of such "new" technology. Having not chosen it, they now feel compelled to support their decision with all sorts of nonsense.

    :D LOL, that was funny.

I wonder if the Honda Insight II gets nearly as much ribbing as the 2nd gen Prius?

I've taken some pretty hard looks at the Insight, front, around. To me, it's more stylish front end and overall look help the silhouette of the car.

Do looks matter for many? Of course. Look at the commercials. Cars are status symbols for many. I think some of the Civics, Camrys, Accords are pretty decent looking, especially the latest generation, S type models.

Lexus IS250? Hot. One of the hottest mainstream sedans IMO.

Do looks really matter? No. I'm sure it's not top on most lists. But, it's nice not to be bugged about your car either. It can get a little old after a while.

IS250 hot? Huh? I have a hard time describing any car as hot. If I want hot I'll drive Jessica Alba...oops, wait, let me rephrase that...

Why do some people 'hate' the Prius?

Simple - some, probably many, hot women say they like fast cars.

Some guys want fast cars to impress hot women ... (what's on the front of just about every 'hot rod' magazine?)

and to hold on to the dream of being like Jeff Gordon (NASCAR), John Force (NHRA), etc...

Women and racing are prime motivators for fast cars, IMO.

Prius is anti-fast, it's 'performance' is efficiency. Some of the modded out Prius' are looking pretty good in their own way. See the thread on aftermarket rims for 3rd gen.

I was 'on the hill' after a sportbike ride, still dealing with crap seat in my Prius. Couple dudes nearby, full leathers, R1 bikes nearby. I said, 'what do you think about Prius?'
They just cringed, ooooooh and said nothing.

Driving an eCVT Prius uphill isn't exactly exhilarating. It's aight in the flats.

Mazdaspeed3, that would be some fun.

I rather think that men fantasize that women like fast cars. Results are the same though.

I thought when I said "all specifications are equal." Doesn't this include gas mileage?

Dude, that's why Baskin Robbins has a gazillion flavors...

Admit it, the short, squat, hunchback, with the tiny wheels and sow-like nice person end makes for one coyote ugly car.

I can't really think of another car quite as ugly.. except maybe a Datsun B-210 hatch, Ford Pinto, AMC Pacer, or something like that.

Well yeah in it's stock form. But that doesn't mean you don't have to drive an ugly car. Like I said, modify, or don't complain.

Well as they say. Opinions are like assholes...

Personally I see many uglier cars on the road. The GenII was ok but wheels and tint helps. The GenIII looks fine stock and quite good with the same mods. They are not as sexy as my old C5 Vette but I don't miss it.

Mmmm, I do not know. I've seen some of the 3rd gen photos with 18's, lowered 'n all. Maybe they look better in person, but I'm not buying the pic look though.

Everyone has preferences for one reason or another, it's psychological.

I happen to like sleek looking cars. One of the reasons is (bit of history) is we had a drag strip in Fremont which brought the top dog NHRA races couple times per year. And I went. I'm talkin' Don Garlits, Don Prudhomme, Shirley Muldowney, and more. This was like 1975 ish. It was fascinating then.

I really liked the 'funny cars' back then - very sleek, very fast. Here's a 70's era fuel funny car. That's a 'Monza' style body. Back then they were doing 1/4 in the 6's at 250 MPH.

Nitro burners don't run 1/4 mile now, due to bad crash couple years ago. They outgrew the tracks. They go 1,000 ft. They drink something over 15 gallons fuel in a run. Ouch. :)

What's your problem? It's not a complaint. I'm answering the question as to why there is Prius rage in my opinion. I don't really give two flying leaps about the ugliness of the car I'm driving... because I'm inside it and I can't see it.

    Yeah, well speaking of a-holes...

Anyway, again, I'm simply explaining why I believe there is a whole bunch of Prius rage. It all starts with the visual "first impressions" in my opinion.

Aww probrecita doesn't like my political opinions so he doesn't like me. :(

You may be right, but you may be crazy.. I think the hate steams from the Prius' connection to environmentalism, foreign cars, and liberal democrats. The Gremlin, Starion, 1990s Dodge Ram trucks and WRX don't get the same magnitude of hatred the Prius does and they are all ugly.

Last weekend when I was filling up at the local gas station the guy in the next pump told me he would love to smash all the toyota prius. I made no comment at all back but saw for pumped 105 dollars into his chevy truck while I had only put 24 dollars in to fill my back up. I guess he was just venting./

Yeah, and the supposed smug superiority felt by those who drive it. Many haters are able to hide these reasons for hating the car and will criticize its battery or high cost, but sometimes it becomes obvious that they are arguing against the car as if it were a political statement and not just a car that gets great gas mileage. There's a fairly long and reasonably well-made Youtube video, "Toyota Prius is Dirtier than a Hummer", where the guy doesn't even TRY to hide the political angle. His car review criticizes not only the Prius, but the Clintons, Al Gore, global warming, liberals in general, and environmentalists ("sandal people", he calls them). I wish more people would wear their biases on their sleeve like that, because then you know that you can take what they say with a grain of salt.
